Yeah, Baby! Going in today to do the last bit of paperwork, then rolling out on a combined 109 days of terminal leave/ PTAD. Actual retirement date is May 31st.

Man, I am so freaking psyched, and scared shitless, all at the same time!

This 20 years has gone by in the blink of an eye. I have loved being a Marine, but it is time to hang the guns above the mantle, and become a right proper Gentleman.

That day will be the best/worst day of your life.  When I left our beloved Corps after twenty years i went through the whole spectrum of emotions.  I was excited for the accomplishment, sad for leaving my friends and my Marines, scared about what I wanted to be when I grow up and apprehensive about what the future held for me.  So take things slow and before you make any decisions enjoy a few weeks or a month of "real vacation"  You will still be in Marine mode but take some down time and really enjoy it.  The reason why is because within three months or so, your new life begins and it will be back to the grind...  so enjoy this paid time off.  Congrats and welcome to the Corps' old folks home!

Thanks for your service. If you decide to get back in the work force remember....you're working because you chose to not because you have too. Find something you want to do, take your time and enjoy.

Thank you for giving up a large chunk of your life to defend my freedom.  I gave six, but career .mil wasn't in the cards for me.

I hope the transition to civilian life is smooth and prosperous for you.  If you're not already set up with "what's next", take advantage of the transition service the military offers.  I did all of the interviewing and resume writing classes that were offered and they were well worth it.  Will be even more worth it for someone in their late 30's/early 40's.  You need to market yourself carefully.
