I want to add a switch to some LED Tape light. Looking to add switch to safe door to turn lights off when safe door is closed. I tried my local Radio Shack and the girl only knew cell phones - go figure. I assume it'll be a 12V switch, as that is the output of the wall transformer. Also, where should I splice it in? I have noted 2 'options' on my MS Paint. Not sure if one of these spots is "safer" than the other. Would like to go 'Option A' as I already have to make a connection and would not want to splice into wall power supply if not needed.

I have something similar. It doesn't matter where you put the switch - it works the same.
I have about 5 watts worth of lights - several 4 led modules across the top, and one on each of the side area shelves. If I leave the lights on all year it costs me about $0.87 a year. |

First off: fuck Radio Shack - that place is like the Harbor Freight of electrical components. Receiving advice there is akin to asking the Walmart receipt checker for reloading tips.
Check out Allied, Newark, Mouser, or Digikey for the what you're looking for in electrical components. Also, the switch should be sized by the amperage it can handle, since it becomes a component in the circuit when it's installed - should be pretty minimal. |
