Help a non-new car guy out.
I have a burned out map light and thought I'd replace it and the other (passenger side and dome) lights with LED bulbs. I've seen YT tutorials where they replace every stinkin' bulb in/on the car with LEDs but I haven't been able to find any LEDs specific to my application. My question is, are the LED bulbs generic/standard enough that one can just go to the LED bulb store and get replacement map, dome, etc. LEDs? I could take my old bulbs out and in to the store but I don't want to pop everything apart and drive around with it that way looking for LEDs...which I may never find. |

I've been shopping lights alot here lately, yes they very likely have a compatible led replacement, the trick is to figure out what type of bulb it requires, and search the number and add led to the search.
I'm not sure what vehicle you're dealing with but it seems most all are easily id'd via Google, or at least that's been my luck so far. I'm upgrading to HID headlights vs led (cost) and looking to replace my drl's with leds and likely my reverse lights. I'll work on my interior lights after I dump some funds into the ol lady's car. |
| They have a reference book hanging by the bulbs in Walmart, you just look it up by vehicle and then check the column for "map light" or whichever bulb(s) you're looking to replace. They have pretty much every type of bulb available as an LED there, and I'm sure any regular auto parts store would have the same setup. |

Super Bright LEDs
If you know the bulb type you can search it that way or search by car. I've replaced almost every bulb on one of my cars with LEDs from these guys and they're still going just fine. There's also Diode Dynamics. No personal experience with them but they seem to get great reviews. |

I have every bulb on my tahoe inside and out changed to an led and yes i mean all even the headlight haha. If you vehicle doesn't like low power leds sbl has ones called can bus that help with that kind of electrical system. Sbl isnt the cheapest place but the quality and customer service makes up for it. The led color temp i got is the 6000k and they are nice and bright white. The interior looks like day time at night the back up and drls are 6000k too love them. Then i got thr switch back blinkers and blue puddle lights for something different
Attached File Above is when i just had the interior done, just the rear is tinted. Below is with the leds all through and with front tinted. Attached File |

A friend of mine installed drop-in LED headlights and his car gave him a "HEADLIGHT INOP" warming because they weren't drawing enough current. He had to install a 100 watt resistor on the Fender well to fool the computer. Ain't technology great?

| I've bought sets for the interiors of a few different vehicles off ebay. IIRC I just searched for year, make, & model of the vehicle & then scrolled down until I found leds. The kits I have got had adapters to make the leds fit the various different styles of bulbs. Have never heard of any issues with interior lights being switched to leds, but exterior lights, taillights, turn signals, etc. can sometimes cause problems. Usually just need a resistor or something. Keep in mind those leds will be BRIGHT!! I ended up putting a blue-tinted one in my drivers side map light so I could turn on a light at night without blinding myself. |
