+1.  He is my favorite athlete, and Im bummed he's hanging it up.  Check out the haters already throwing up the BS flag....

I say "already", but the Europeans have been saying this for years....
Nothing makes me happier than the fact that he has destroyed everyone for 7 straight years- in FRANCE no less.  Gotta love it.

It is sad that he is retiring. I got to watch all 21 stages of the tour this year, and he is absolutely an amazing athlete. Watching him ride Saturday's time trials was definitely one of the highlights of the tour this year.

Dude if you going to back up assertions post the entire article not just some blog.  And use a credible source.  There is a lot of garbage on the internet.  Just because its on the internet doesnt mean its true.

Second the article doesnt say shit about what his policies would be or his politcal leanings other then the title.

I still say he's a liberal.  Ask other people from Texas.

more

In an interview with the New York Times, teammate George Hincapie hinted at Armstrong possibly running for Governor of Texas after retiring from cycling. In the July 2005 issue of Outside magazine [6], Armstrong himself hinted at possibly running for Governor, although "not in '06." By Texas political standards, he would almost certainly run as a Democrat, as he has described himself in the past as being "middle to left," "against mixing up State and Church," "not keen on guns," opposed to the Iraq War, and pro-choice. U.S. Senator John Kerry, interviewed on OLN at the 2005 Tour de France, indicated Armstrong has the potential to be successful in politics. "I think he'd be awesome, he'd be a force. I just hope it's for the right party," Kerry said on OLN. President George W. Bush, a Republican and fellow Texan, also considers Armstrong to be a close friend.

Armstrong was quoted by The Times in 2004 about his views on Iraq: "I don't like what the war has done to our country, to our economy. My kids will be paying for this war for some time to come. George Bush is a friend of mine and just as I say it to you, I'd say to him, 'Mr President, I'm not sure this war was such a good idea', and the good thing about him is he could take that."

No shit. Add to that he's boning Sheryl Crow (a stark-raving-mad liberal) and that adds up to him being dangerously entrenched in the ether of the left.

A fine bike racer, but I don't see that as a reason to vote for him in an election. From what I can figure out from books about him he seems like kinda a jerk with a huge ego, albiet a jerk that has tightly focused his jerkiness and ego into suceeding at bike racing. But figuring out anyone from third-hand media is always a crap shoot.

Besides, I was always more of a Lemond fan. His races had some _style_! The '89 tour was one of the greatest ever.

I agree, it never fails, it always degenerates into democrate and liberal accusations regardless of the person mentioned.  There are different levels of being conservative and liberal.  Even GWB pisses off a lot of conservatives.

He has embarrassed the French 7 years in a row and brought pride to our country. He has been more then sincere in his behavior.  Regardless of the rumors that he dumped his wife for Crow.  They fail to mention that she was cheating on him with 2 guys. What more can you ask for?

Kristen came AFTER the cancer.  In fact, they met at one of his "Ride for the Roses" events, a cancer survival foundation.

It was KRISTEN who did the cheating.  It was caught on surveilence video.  The other guy is well-known in Austin and I am not going to repeat his name here but it is well-known FACT.  Lance would rather forget it happened.
