I'm in need of some sort of lapping compound that I could use for polishing feed ramps and crowning a barrel. Suggestions? Ideally something I could find at home depot or pep boys.

Either valve lapping compound at an auto parts store,

Or polishing compound in with the waxes and polishes.

I think you may need two different grit compounds for your uses.

I may or may not have used GoJo to lap some gears together in a pinch.

400 grit clover? Probably good for feed ramps, kinda fine for crown

Cratex wheels might be an option. The come in many shapes and sizes.

Simichrome or equivalent for polishing feed ramps, valve grinding compound for crowning a muzzle.

Edit: if the feed ramps have tool marks that have to be smoothed out, the aforementioned cratex tips in the courser grades will work well.

Please post before and after photos of this job (and after the gunsmith installs a new barrel). I've always been curious how it's done.

600 wet/dry wrapped around a dowel, oiled or with grease.
Green round abrasive dremel tool used in a pin vise, oiled or with grease.
