I'm just about at my wits end. I have a HP laptop about three years old that will not connect to the internet. I have had DSL about 6 months and my desktop works fine but when I hook up the laptop, it shows that it is connectyed and it shows that it is sending packets but it isn't receiving packets. I took it back to where I bought it and they said it had alot of spyware on it, so they said they fixed it and it works fine for them but when I get home and hook it up...........NOTHING!!!! Does anyone know what my problem could be?

What have you got on there for an OS, virus software, and a firewall?  I suppose you could have permissions for Internet Explorer blocked from accessing the internet.  Just a thought though.

Sounds like your winsock files are corrupt!!  If you are running Xp run this utility

then keep it handy you will probably have to use it a couple times untill you get the virus, trojan, spyware off your machine.  read my other posts on the programs to use to get rid of the spyware...

I came home today and put the required addresses in and it started working. In fact I'm posting with it now. Maybe I've been putting the IP addresses and stuff in wrong. I'll give an update in a day or two. Thanks for your help.
