I have a Dell Vostro with a problem. I lose connection to my home. wireless network very often. What happens is suddenly the pages won't load. The signal is still showing strong. The only way to get it back up is to turn the modem off and turn back on.
the strange thing is it seem to do it only at home. any suggestions? running xp pro. |

| No one else I can see using the same channel. in fact i change it a couple of times thinking that was it. Phones a 5.8. Modem is separate from the router. It only happens on this laptop,as i ahev tried it on my wife and kids and it had no problems. But if i use the laptop at another place, say a starbucks or such,I have no problems. |

So you're turning your (Cable? or DSL?) modem off and then back on?
Or are you turning your ROUTER off and then back on? Is your router also an access point? What model is it? Does your laptop actually say it's lost it's connection to the network? Or just has "limited connectivity?" |

I have 3 laptops at home and this is the only one with the problem. I don't have the problem outside of home. the green bar still is green. I know its gone when I try to access a site and it won't go there. |

First thing i'd try is updating the drivers on your laptop. Go to support.dell.com, enter your service tag, and find the appropriate driver. Don't just trust windows update to do it. Is your wireless WEP or WPA? Occasionally i've seen this pop-up with linksys routers and laptops. For whatever reason certain combinations of router / NIC / drivers don't seem to want to work. |

Tkip. Its a trendnet router. should i try it on WPA2 and see whta happens? |
