| My Son Cracked his screen on his Gateway laptop is it possible to replace just the Screen .If so where woul dyou buy one. |
|
I replaced the screen on my IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad a while back. I ordered one pretty cheap of of Ebay, NIB. I can't speak for other manufacturers' models, but on the Thinkpad there were a gazillion tiny screws, painstaking wiring routing and little details that made it an ordeal of a couple hours. It was pretty straightforward but frustrating as hell. Next time I'll just get a new laptop. -p. |

It's easy if you know how to take stuff apart. What model? Ebay is the best and cheapest source. It is a T-6321 There's one here, but it's a bit expensive. |

I found a HP laptop in the garbage when my neighbor moved, it had a bad screen. I bought one on eBay for right at $100. and the installation was pretty straight forward, not difficult at all. The trick is to get the correct replacement screen and this requires removal of the old one so you can get the complete model number off the back of the screen. My father in law is still using this laptop today.
The company I bought my screen from was in Texas and all they sell is laptop screens but, I can't recall the name of the company. |

not hard to replcae at all. you may not have a bunch of little wires-mine had little plastic connectors. when you replace it, be sure to unplug it, remove the battery and then try to power it up to dissapate any residual power-other wise you could burn out the new screen.
Ask me how I know. |

usually not that difficult if you can operate a screwdriver and carefully unplug small wires. Just take your time and you'll have no problem. You can get the repl screen here-

Genesis: As far as an LCD panel goes for your laptop, what is the product code on the bottom of the unit? should end with an AV. I can look up the part number for you if you want. or get you most of the part numbers for it. On the bottom of my computer it says; S/N CNF601VS P/N RG289UA #ABA Should I just take the screen out and get the number off the screen so I am sure to get the right one? I have another laptop now that I am using. I don't see the screws that hols the screen together. Are they under the little rubber plugs in the front of the panel? |

There's an auction on eBay right now for a whole top part. All you need to do is just screw it out of the hinges and replace it. http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPAQ-PRESARIO-V6000-WIDESCREEN-LCD-15-4_W0QQitemZ390132620288QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad5b75c00 |
