[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Late model corvette damage inside (Page 1 of 2)
Posted: 10/30/2015 12:18:15 PM EDT
Was watching this on the news this morning and it struck me odd that the entire wheel assembly was dislodged. Reporter said the two males were in corvette on the interstate on ramp when driver lost control. One wheel apparently hit the guardrail and wedged under the rail. One male occupant was thrown from the car another was found unconscious in the vehicle by first responders. The Reporter said that officials are trying to determine the cause of the accident and what caused the driver to lose control. Not much traffic on the road at 3:00 a.m maybe they were entering the interstate at high rate of speed and Simply lost it?
Eta: here's the drivers side shot
story |
| Makes some sense. Subframe with suspension was attached to the main body shell. That was the weak link and where the car separated. Older Vettes had full length rails from front to back. This one appears to be put together differently. Notice how the passenger compartment is still nice and intact. If homeboy that was ejected had been wearing his seatbelt he'd likely be in better shape than he is now. I see wrecked cars all day every day. This is pretty tame. -J |

This one appears to be put together differently. Negative on the subframe being attached to the body shell. Judging from the color, wheels and seats, it looks to be a 2010-2011 Z06. All C6 have beefy fully-boxed front-to-rear full length frame rails. Front suspension A-arms are attached to both the magnesium subframe (lower) and the full-car-length aluminum frame (upper). |

Yes, a dry sump system is an option on all new Corvettes. At least for 2015 it is. Quoted:

Dibs on the LS2. Yes, a dry sump system is an option on all new Corvettes. At least for 2015 it is. The model wrecked is not a 2015. It's at least a 2006-2010 and looking at the wheels it's more 2009-2010 |

pure speculation but at a high rate of speed you lose it and slide sideways
when the nose contacts a barrier it would typically do that I thought the engineering of modern cars is designed to do exactly that front and rear can be torn away leaving just the stronger shell around the passengers |

So that fucking tool bag thought he was the shit and actually burning out the tires?

| Not the first Corvette I've seen torn up after some dumb ass lets it get out from under him. I've seen guys at the strip, turn them sideways and drive it into the wall with their foot still hard on the gas. 3 days later, they're on some Corvette forum blaming GM, the car, the track, everybody except the shithead driving the car. Couldn't be his fault, he's an expert. |
