Being a new dog owner, I don't know it all. So treat me kindly. Today, my dog ate the following: -His food -5 pieces of some unknown cat shit he found buried -3 pieces of coyote shit -1 piece of shit of unknown origin, but suspected racoon Do I need to do anything special for him? (worms, etc) |
|
Quoted: Restrict dog's access to shit. Yeah, normally not a problem (hasn't been). But today, I took him to work without a leash (I forgot it). He roamed around a LOT. He was pretty good, suprisingly. He came back to my call pretty reliably. When he didn't, I'd take off and he'd follow me. Several times, though, he got the shit fast. I work outside, and he is with me all the time. Normally, I have his leash. But anyway, do I need to worm him now? How do I do it? |

(worms, etc) Yes. He can get hookworms from the poop. Easy way to cure him. You need to bury his nose in it....literally bury his nose in shit and then slap him and give a stern "NO" in a low booming voice....and if he resists you then you go for the coup de grais.........The "alpha roll". This is more effective than a hit or slap or yelling. (google it if you don't know what it is). |

Follow directions. More than a few heart worm medications contain it. And it does control GI worms. |

My new pup is about the same. Has a real taste for turkey shit in particular.
I aske the vet about it too. Shouldn't need to worry about deworming him. That seems to only be a problem when they eat their own shit which had the worms in it. My dog had just been dewormed when we got her, then a couple weeks later puked up a couple. Vet said she probably just got into her own stuff and dewormed her again. |

The biggest problems with dogs eating non food items are intestinal blockages and poisoning. Deadly: Anti freeze Rodent poison Alchohol (even beer, wine etc. their livers cannot tolerate it well at all) Not good: Raisins Grapes chocolate onions raw Salmon (could be fatal if a certain parasite is present in the fish) rhododendrons azealas |
