Well rumor had it that today was "L" Day and it was. We lost an unknown number of people today, management will not come forth and give any information.
Rumor had it that their were lay offs at he Milford plant a couple weeks ago, no official word on that either. We lost one guy out of the Maintenance Dept. We are getting hit pretty hard as we make a lot of metal castings for the Auto industry.....GM,Chrysler, Cummings , BMW..We also make a lot of stuff for the military. If Odipshit cuts Defense we are going to get hit again. .........We used to be 400-500 hourly employees in Littleton, now were down to about 110. I am glad I still have my job, but I have seen a lot of good people get the ax!! This is like the 8th year in a row, maybe more, that they have layoffs right at Thanksgiving/Christmas time. I have been there 15 years. Manufacturing is almost gone in northern NH |

They sent out a note Tuesday saying that we will have a shut down the first week of January. We can either take vacation or not scheduled to work.
It just seems the company can't get its shit together and we have people coming n on the weekend to run parts and then the same people have no work on Monday or Tuesday.....
They just cut out Maintenance mandatory weekends last week.I was coming in on Sunday at double time and putzing around just in case one of the "critical" machine went down. I have worked every other weekend for the last 1.5 years , now all of a sudden the customer does not want very many parts!!! |

Just as a side note............... All Salary types are accounted for. Seems only the people making parts and fixing machines are disposable!!! I work at a junior college. That's why I always advise the kids to at least MINOR in business administration. When they get tired of shifting bedpans, or running machine tools... or when their backs go out from the above... they have something to fall back on. |

Sorry to hear this!!! glad you are still ok. I work for Wal-Mart and we are slamed every day! If you need steady work you can work for us. Don't believe the shit that Wal-Mart pays minimum. They start most jobs at stores at about $11.00/hr and if you have a DC close by they will start you in the mid teens and in a few years you will get over $20/hr.
You won't get rich but it pays the bills and is secure reliable work. |

I'm in automotive too.
We mold the interior carpet and inject the foam molding for soud abatement in BMW's and Mercedes...German owned company. They do some crazy shit sometimes like letting go a popular manager, or supervisor...etc. If in Management you haver a big bullseye on yourself, the higer up you are the bigger the bullseye. We have slowed down alot, all the temporaries are gone, everything is 40 hours a week maximum but so far the company has held true to their word...no layoffs.... thus far regular employees have escaped...in fact work has picked up for me...I work on those huge molds and now it's "PM city" while things are slow....but finally I can work on some tooling and complete a task without half-assing it before they say they need to run it. |

Not in manufacturing but healthcare (not a nurse or high level position). Had many lay offs at my hospital. Forced use of PTO to offset payroll costs, management taken temporary pay cuts (will no doubt receive bonuses next year), departments closed, 401K and other benefits hit, etc.
Brought to the attention of my director how money is wasted, things lost or unaccounted for, already saved the place over $2,000 a year after finding cheaper prices for supplies from other vendors; and I don't even hear a "thanks" or "nice work" for it. Doesn't seem like they give a fuck at blatant waste even when they are asked to be notified about it.
Really fucked up right now. I'm the best in the place at what I do, everyone in the department knows it, even other dept., but still I worry daily if I'll have a job tomorrow.

We layed off 75% of our workforce at our facility.
They decided to give us managers and those that we've retained Thanksgiving week off, but are paying us the two holiday days for Thurs-Fri. So, Mon-Wed will be the first time I've ever been layed off in my life. I'm foing deer hunting this weekend into Wed. |
| The company I work for is down $200m for the quarter compared to last year in earnings. Things are still in the black, but not as they were a year or two ago. I just hope that store hours are the first to change vs. personnel. I've been there right over 4 years, but sometimes that doesn't matter. That's why I put over $350 in savings per pay period. Just in case...and now it seems well worth it just in case. |

It sounds like things are getting tough all over.............One of the things that stands out where I work is, They seem to step over a 5 dollar bill to save a nickel..............They waste utilities big time. Leaving machines running for hours with coolant, hydraulics and air on for hours with nobody running it.
Plant management decided they needed new work benches throughout the whole plant.........So we have a guy welding 2X2 steel frame works together and putting maple bench tops..they have spent thousands on this, The old benches worked fine they just were a little old and needed a good cleaning and painting. We run a 100 HP air compressor when the plant is closed because we have to keep 40 PSI air in a dry Fire Riser, I have put in a suggestion to hook the riser up to a small 5 HP compressor we have in the Maintenance shop..............they won't do it. So we will run the 100 Hp over 4 days for T-Day for, 4 days for Christmas and 7 day for the January shut down for no other reason than the Riser. |

We had layoffs on Tuesday, and we only just had some in August. Lost 15 people in our building, including 6 in IT (where I work). I am thankful that I have survived two rounds of layoffs so far but I am going to have to start looking to work in a different industry segment as this one is very sensitive to the economy (temporary staffing).
Anybody got a need for a PeopleSoft developer? |

Glad you made it through this round!! I heard today that the layoffs we had this week were not supposed to have happened until January. So, either we are doing so bad we had to bring that round forward or maybe there will be even more come January Looks like I really do need to bail....anyone got an eject pic?
