No worries man, I love this stuff and study Japanese history which is BONKERS when you start learning everything from the Jomon up to the edo era.

ETA: Also I sadly have to point out that I knew all of that off the top of my head. Fucking Weeb....

The Sengoku period gave me headaches, the few times I tried to sort it out.  I suspect that's partly because I have enough trouble keeping track of English names.

Yeah the Sengoku Jidai is a bit of a nightmare, but there is a great youtube channel called "The Shogunate" that has a very in-depth series about it. Its still hard to remember but it is very informative.

I can do it faster. Just add extra syllables.
"You-ahh getteta-me ah quat-ah-ahh poundel-ah with-a-tha cheese-ah from-ah Macadonaldadens-ah?"

No wait, that's accented English...

OK, how did you get those kana and kanji to show up in your post?

(Thinking that they will probably not even appear correctly in my quote above, and I’ve never previously had satisfactory results when trying to enter such characters or paste them into an arfcom post)

ETA : well the quote above did manage to preserve them…

Let's see if enabling Japanese keyboards on my iPhone works:

edit: nope.

I use a separate online japanese text editor then copy and paste. It is the most reliable way of doing it.

Can you be more specific? What editor?

For me, neither direct entry from iPhone Japanese keyboard into Safari nor copy and paste from google translate in Chrome nor use of the Windows IME keyboard in Chrome seem to work…

There are several text editors around that work even google translate works for me. I use brave as a browser though. Make sure you have the windows japanese language packs installed. I would assume that you do if you can see the text though.
