What's the legal difference between a "Freehold" and regular purchased land? Is there one?

Reason I ask is because I was doing some lotto daydreaming and found some islands for sale and they are listed as being a "Freehold". I've heard the term before, but realized I don't know if there is something different involved in the term.

Ive searched islands before (thats my ultimate dream) and i think freehold is a regular purchase. Some countries in asia you cant buy land as a foreigner, only a 99 year lease or whatnot. Those are referred to as leasehold.
