Look up Graham Hawkes and the deep flight project. Richard Branson is now funding part of it. He started the project back in the late 90s. The goal was to conquer the ocean. From a point of view he's done it. 20 mil sub can it can withstand the water pressure.

Humanity has had a few manned trips to the Mariana Trench.

I think one was in the 60s. I'll look it up and edit it.

We definitely could do a super crazy deep water sub.

Edit: Yep, 1960

Movie director James Cameron went down into the Marianas Trench in 2012. He made a movie about it.

I remember hearing about that at the time. It's too bad there wasn't some sort of weakness in the hull. He's such a POS.

I'm sure there are several species that live deep on the ocean bottom that haven't been discovered.

As for Pelagic top water species, I doubt it.  There are a lot of fishermen, commercial and recreational, out there that would most likely have discovered anything really far out of the ordinary.

Or it came up for a look see and the next thing you know it was run over by a great big steel whale.

My father told of when he was in the Navy that a freighter that docked at Sydney had caught a large shark that was following them to eat the food that they threw overboard. They had fashioned a hook out of a 1" bar, attached this hook to one of the cranes, put a chicken on it, and hung it over when they threw their food overboard again. Once the shark bit it, the crane lifted him out. My father's shipped docked by it and they could see it hanging up. My father said he went over to the ship to get a closer look. He stated that the the shark's mouth was about 1.5X the width of his outstretched arms. My father was 6'3". This gave a mouth width of about 10'.

Just looked it up.

Great White's mouth is about 3-4 feet, so even if he's exaggerating and it's only 6'5" that's a really effing big shark!

Isn't there life discovered near deep sea vents that scientist thought were impossible conditions that totally changed what we thought was possible to sustain life?  Like shrimp running around in methane.

I remember something like that but it was a cave environment and they were living in chlorine or ammonia.

Here's two videos I found on Megaladon I figured I'd share.

Clearly the guy wants to believe, but I think they're interesting anyway.

Megalodon Shark Caught On Camera 62 Feet Long Shocking

Second one I can't inbed, but it's here.

They just discovered some mini blue whale a few years ago that 40 ft long. Megaladon is a definite possibility still. Even if there are only a few left. I get scared shitless just looking at pics.  And thanks to whoever posted the deep sea scale with the giant sea monster at the bottom.  I wont sleep again ever

There's some crazy stuff in the ocean.  Side scan sonar has picked up some amazing things.

Wow.  I'm impressed with the detail.   How deep will sonar work effectively?

No idea.  I'd assume pretty deep, depending on the equipment though.

Dead stuff tends to be eaten before they reach the shore, and the remains sink. If you want some interesting pictures look up "whale fall".

Some weird shit out in the ocean. Finding more Coelacanth-type relics wouldn't surprise me at all.
