I'm trying to cut weight. As far as the diet part of that goes, I'm on the fence about eggs. I'm working towards adding a little upper body muscle and re-toning my lower body so I want to get adequate protein. What's the concensus on eggs in the gym world these days? Ok? If so how many? Whites only? 1 yoke/4 white omelets? Help a brother out.

My opinion for what its worth.

Eggs are an excellent source of protein. You need some fat in your diet. If you are concerned about fat you can just buy Egg Beaters. I buy them because they are easy though they don't quite taste as good. They are egg whites with some vitamins added back in. They are also pasturized if you want to go Rocky on us and not worry about salmonela. You can even buy them with "some" yolk in them now but I havent tried those.
I would worry more about total calories if trying to cut.

Off the top of my head:
1g protein = 4 cal
1g carb = 4 cal
1g fat = 9 cal

So obviously to eat a certain amount of cals the more fat in your diet the less food you can eat. Other than that some fat is good for you. Figure out how many cals you should be eating to maintain your weight then subtract around 500 cals. Eating that every day should get you a steady fat loss.

That's good info. Do you think daily fat intake from yokes is ok or would it be better to divide it up along with things like olive & flaxseed oil?

When I was cutting pretty good, I ate 2 hardboiled eggs every morning with some oatmeal. Worked like a charm.

That's kind of what I had in mind, I bought some steel cut oats and I thought that and the eggs + a little fruit would be a good breakfast route.

I think if you are eating good the fat from whole eggs won't hurt.

Yes; you are best served by taking in your fats from a variety of sources.  Monounsaturated fats(most nuts, olive oil, avocado) tend to lower LDL cholesterol(low-density lipoprotien, the carrier molecule that deposits cholesterol in your arteries), while raising levels of HDL(high-density lipoprotein, the carrier molecule that brings cholesterol back into your liver).  Polyunsaturated fats(walnuts, fish oil, various grains) tend to lower, both, HDL and LDL.  Trans fat is made through the process of hydrogenation, where unsaturated fats are artificially saturated to a higher degree(check nutrition labels for hydrogenated oils!).

High consumption of saturated fats will eventually raise serum cholesterol levels and, in time, can place you at a higher risk of heart disease.  Consuming unsaturated fats in the place of saturated fats, while placing an emphasis on regular exercise can greatly reduce the risk of various acquired disorders of the heart.

This is not to say that eggs are bad, but the consumption of large quantities may have some drawbacks that come along with the nutritional benefits.  The fat in eggs is not entirely saturated, so it is certainly much better than getting your proteins from a burger

ETA:  Eggs contain both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids.  My apologies if my post made it sound as if egg fat = all bad fat.  I just removed the first part of my post to fix it.

A large egg is only about 70 cals, so a couple of eggs for breakfast certainly isn't going to kill you.

I eat 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites scrambled every other morning at breakfast.

I dropped about 50 lbs at the end of 07.  Drug free.

I ate a dozen whole eggs a day in the process.

No, I didn't lose much muscle mass.

Damn, can you elaborate a little? Hard boiled like cool hand Luke or what? I ate 10 at boot camp once on a dare, my stomach was not amused.

Personally, I don't think anyone but bodybuilders and diabetics need to worry about breaking their food down into macro nutrients.

All you need to know is eggs are tasty food that occur in nature.  That means your body is hardwired/pre-adapted to consuming and metabolizing them.  Cook 'em whole (at only 70cal per), any way you like.

Pretty much.

I've found a diet that works extremely well for me; Eggs+Steak

Every 2 hours, I suck down ~8-10oz of steak, or 6 whole eggs, usually scrambled.  2Xs a day I do a whey shake instead.

I've found that if I don't keep the fat content pretty high, I get pretty stupid, so no chicken, tuna, etc.  The high protein content keeps the muscle on.

More than 12 eggs/day seems to do terrible things to my digestive system, however.
