I have been using my dad's toolbox my entire life.
When I was a kid I used his tools (which drove him nuts
He passed away many years ago and at the time (in my teens) I inherited all his tools and have used his toolbox ever since (over 20 years now) Well, after 40 plus year of it being iin existence, dad's tool box has seen better days...and as much as it pains me to put it out of its misery, the time has come. So....I know I want ball bearing guided drawers...I want a bottom and top cabinet (whole thing will probably be around 5' tall) Looked at Craftsman (lot of money for what you get) Looked at Kobalt (at Lowes) - seems like a nice box for the money, about half the price of Craftsman for the same features) Saw a no-name brand at Sam's Club - cheap, but who knows what kind of quality it is. Snap-on - I get a discount, but even with that its way too rich for my blood. If I bought it today I'd probably go with the Kobalt I saw at Lowes. Anyone have other suggestions, opinions, endorsements, or reviews? I'm looking to keep this around $500 give or take. Post pics of any suggestions if you have them - thanks |

Since you are talking 5' tall I assume you will not need to move it around after filling it up.
Tall with a small footprint and moving it around can equal tip over. My Snap On for work now goes for about 4k. Lots of room inside, plus the top is a good size work bench. |

I definitely dont want crap but damn these things are a lot of money.
I could get an AR with top shelf optics for the price of some of the Snap-On tool boxes I'm seeing. Guess it's a sellers market. My tools need a good home...the current box just isnt getting the job done any longer. Hmmmm...a shit ton of money on a name brand.....or a reasonable compromise for a box that would probably last me my useful life. |

I have a Maximizer w/sidebox add on form Mac tools. I don't have the top chest because I like the counter space. Not a expensive as the Snap on and better quality than the Craftsman. Just looked at that one...I could have a full auto Uzi and a few cases of ammo for the same price
Im not a pro mechanic here...just a weekend Mr. Fix-it. That is a damn nice box but way out of my price range and needs range. |

Quoted: My 25 year old Snap On boxes, that I have at the house, look and work pretty much like the day I bought them. It's a long term investment, go Snap On We have used several different brands of boxes over the years for the race team I work for and have destroyed quite a few. The main problem we have is the constant shaking the boxes have to endure while in transport while fully loaded with tools. The Kobalt ones went the fastest, 1 year and broken welds in the cabinet. Craftsman went the same way but took about 1.5 years to crack while the Kennedy's we have for one team have finally cracked after five years. We utilize a Snap On tool wagon for one team that is loaded with tools and spare parts that we have had for 9 years that pretty much works and looks like the day it came off the Snap On truck after criss crossing the country at least 70 times. snap on , try and find a dealer that has some pre owned boxes Every Snap On guy I have ever dealt with had a bunch of trade in boxes, look into this. |

| I had one of those stainless steel top and bottom boxes from sams club. It came with the ball bearing slides and pre cut mats for the drawers and both boxes had the barrel lock on them like snap on. For the 700 or so I paid I was impressed. But I ran out of room and bought a snap on. My dad now uses the box. |

Quoted: It's a long term investment, go Snap On or Kennedy, for the machinist types. On a side note: As a bachelor, I plan to use a Snap On box as a dresser. It's way cooler than real furniture, and when I become unbachelored I 'll have an awesome place to put tools. |

I have one of these and it's nice. I wish I got a bigger one.
