I just picked up Olds Toronado to add to the collection. Usually, I just put historical plates on my classic or antique cars but for some reason, I'm toying with the idea of a vanity plate for this one. Obviously, the Toronado is a huge car. Comfy, powerful and large...very large. Anyway, in this day and age of cars like the Soul, Prius and other tiny, little, "enviro-friendly" cars, the old Olds stands out both physically and politically (in a incorrect way). I want a plate that states the obvious, in a humorous way if possible. I'm looking for something that exhues the greatness of America past, sort of along the lines of "America...fvck yeah!". Maybe something more politically charged to make liberals or enviromentalists cringe a little. They like to throw their opinions with a holier than thou attitude, so a nice retort that says, "I know it gets 12 mpg and I don't really care." or "I burn tires on Earth Day". We have seven spaces available, I believe. The best I've come up with is: "MPG LOL" I'm toying with "Gore was wrong" but it's way too many letters obviously. ![]() Help a uncreative, inconsiderate ass out. |

Quoted: DR OLDS FWD FTW ![]() ETA- What year? Dad had a '72 for many years. 455's are torque monsters. I'm thinking the plate will end up with some sort of "text speak" in it simply because you can say so much more with so little. It's a whole new vernacular anymore. Jesus, I'm getting old. Your Dads wasn't a Matador Red one was it? The one I picked up is a 1972 as well that just clicked over 100k. Runs awesome, with a nearly perfect interior too. It has the numbers matching 455 and one of the original triple white stripe tires as a spare. I'll try and get a pic of it, depending on how my morning goes. Awesome ideas thus far. Some damn funny guys hang out here. |

My late Great Uncle had a four door version exactly like that car (it might've been a two door, but I'm pretty sure it was a four door). The two tone white and red exterior, the green dash, and the white seats were all the same color. The biggest difference was his car had seen a lot more use then your car. He would take my family for a vacation every summer after my father died when I was 4. The destination was about 400 miles each way. Those pictures brought back memories of him, his car, and those trips. The last time I rode in his car was probably when I was 9 or 10. He died when I was 13 or 14. Again, thank you for posting those pictures. The memories came flooding back to me after I viewed those pictures. Please take good care of that car

Gotta love the six way power bench seat |

Sorry all, lost internet for a little while there. Evidently backhoes and fibre optics don't play well together. No...it wasn't me. Olds is pretty much my first love as far as cars go so I really wouldn't mind. ![]() Boss Maverick Cool, I'm glad it brought back good memories for you. I often think of my grandpa when I'm behind the wheel also. He had a 73 Delta 88. The dash is the same so it's not a stretch to bring back memories.Thank you for posting those pictures. Spent the weekend, on and off, stuffing a new cam in it. She definitely has a rumble to her now. My God, she has tons of midrange torque which makes for nice 35 to 75 acceleration onto the interstate. Fixed a few more things as well. Heater works now with a new valve. Upper rear tailights now work and evidently the seat belt buzzer which must be on the same circuit. Still need to find a correct AM/FM Stereo radio for it yet. The local drive-inn uses FM to transmit the audio during the movie so the original AM isn't going to cut it. I went through three radios that I've saved through the years, most of which are AM/FM stereo/ 8-tracks, that are all dead. Even the one that has a CB built in wont make a peep. Maybe I'm not doing something right, but I was bummed as I thought all three were good yet. |
