Quote History Quoted: Born in 1951. Kids played outside all day. We played football, baseball, Zorro, had green apple battles, dug forts, fought a million battles (and always won) against nazis, dirty japs, blood thirsty indians, and fierce jungle animals. We could all do a passable Tarzan yell. We saved a thousand virgins from "a fate worse than death" whatever that meant. We went to the movies on Saturday, church on Sunday - in Sunday clothes, there were no school discipline problems, if you were fat you were called fatty, black folks lived "over there", rode single gear bicycles everywhere. we knew how to hide under our desks and keep hands over eyes, Disney Land was really a lot of fun, new shoes were a big deal, Sears and Roebuck catalogue was better than Montgomery Wards, parents & teachers would whup that ass when you needed it, one car per family, 19 cents a gallon, all auto repair including tires was done in the front yard. Men were men. They had been raised in the Great Depression, fought in WWII, and wanted a better life for their family. There were no "poof jobs". Factories, steel, construction, military, ect. AC and color Tv were dreams. Everybody smoked. No one was obese. there was no profanity and rarely did you see a tattoo. Appearance was important. View Quote There's a reason why I chose my user name. Yep. I too was born on the mid 50's. Everything is relative, and so I can compare now with growing up in the 60s and know how sick western culture now is. The change started in 1965 but couldnt take full hold until the 90s and 2000s because there was still enough of the old standards and ethics ingrained in many boomers by their parents and that society they lived in. With each new generation, less of the old standards get passed on. I did things I'm not proud of in the 70S as a young man. But the point is I have a conscience and moral compass passed onto me and know the difference. Now 60 years later, too many young people are the product of nothing more then a good screw, are parentless, or subjects of an abusive upbinging, and ultimately raised by the rules of the street. Our all inclusive society panders to them in woke and vote buying. Yes, I miss growing in the 60s for good reason other than nostalgia.
