Having a discussion with the guys today and there is an equation or example of how life is created using "squares of energy".  It's something like 3 squares have to touch to create another square etc. but once it gets going it creates this insane example of how life develops.  Does anyone know what this is called???

I programmed that game in BASIC on an Apple II in high school.

It was hella-slow, so I re-wrote it in assembly. Then it was merely sluggish.
