My schedule has changed and I will have to get my lifting in on weekday mornings.

Anyone else do this? I have a hard time getting going. Do you eat before you head out? What do you eat?

I'm the same way, I usually feel stronger around 11 am. Lately though I've been lifting at 0600. I get up at 0520, drink about a half cup of instant coffee and drive 10 min to the gym (on days I don't workout in my garage). By the time I get there I'm somewhat woken up. Then I maybe run just a bit at a slow jog, do some mobility exercises and such then start the lift. Seems to work for me, the mobility and light jog are very important for me.

I lift in the mornings quite a bit. I'm typically on some type of pre work out sup so that helps get me going.

For some reason I have a hard time getting motivated to do squats and dead lifts in the AM. They are my 2 favorite lifts if I am there after work, I guess it just seems like to much to do that early.

Whatever you do, make sure you warm up properly.  I've started to lift in the AM every other week since my work schedule rotates AM/PM weekly.  This past Monday I pulled a muscle in my neck/trap and it hasn't been fun.  Everything is stiff and cold in the AM, so it's hard to shake off the sleep and bust out a good workout.  I think I'm going to start putting some more emphasis on flexibility and stretching on my days off.

I don't eat prior, as I'm not fond of feeling like I'm going to puke when lifting heavy and on a full stomach.  Seems to make me sluggish too.  Protein shake and some breakfast immediately when I get home though.

I hit the gym at 6 AM. I usually just eat a breakfast bar on my way. I don't do cardio that early, just heavy weights. If you have a regular sleep pattern then most will benefit from lifting early since testosterone levels are at it's peak shortly after waking (morning wood and all that)

I'm a late night lifter and I usually hit the gym around 7pm.  I need a way to bleed off my stress and frustration after a days worth of work.   I've done morning workouts before and they never feel as productive.

Once I started lifting in college I would go in the mornings without eating anything except maybe drinking a protein shake if I work up early enough.  I would take pre-workout supps though.  I really liked working out in the morning, but due to my work schedule now I just get in my workout whenever I can.

the only reason i don't go early is that the place is packed.

otherwise, it seems i feel better all day if i get a workout in the morning.

Down a protein shake and maybe a piece of fruit, go lift, then have a normal breakfast.

+1

I used to wonder what old people do when they retire.  I now know that at least in the mornings, they congregate in rec center weight rooms. :D

I go around 5:30. I eat a spoon full of peanut butter before I go and try to drink as much water as I can before I get there. I eat breakfast and/or drink a protein shake when I get back.

I usually work out at 5am and on most days will eat a hard boiled egg on my way out the door.

If I do workout early in the mornings, I have to do a longer warmup.  Usually cycling through the Crossfit Warmup twice will do it.

But, I prefer to workout between 10am and 1pm because the gym is less packed (There is a class from 8am to 10 am that uses the weight room).

Mostly work out late at night (after 8 PM) but on occasion I will work out at 5AM if I have to. When I do, I pretty much wake up at 4:45 and will down a glass of fruit juice or a slice of bread and peanut butter on the way out the door.

If I'm lucky, I'm kinda awake by the time I walk through the door

My workouts usually begin at 4am and end by 5:20am. Aerobic activity, usually a bike ride, is the exception.

I used to work out in the AM when I worked nights....But I had already been up for about 14 hours at
that point.

After a couple weeks and some advice from this thread, things are going well. Getting in a good solid warm up and stretching have been key. It is a great feeling knowing you knocked out your PT for the day and not having to have a nagging feeling to get it done.

I love working out early.  I have found that a good preworkout does wonders on those unmotivated days.
