Has anyone actually received a job offer or inquiry because you had your info on LinkedIn ?
Can it really help...I get random networking requests from  people.

A bit of that, but also at least a dozen random sales calls a week.  It appears they look up my company name and then access my extension from our automated directory so that can ask for "5 minutes of time on your calendar".  Multiply that by all the companies doing that and it gets rather annoying.
3/28/2016 4:22:55 PM EDT
[#6]
yup.  That's how I got into my current position.

I have gotten a few good leads when other companies looked me up based on skill sets and a well-written summary of how awesome I am at my job.

It's always better to have a hiring manager, or better yet, a manager from the department you'd be working for hit you up instead of a third party headhunter.

Numerous HR/headhunter inquiries per month...some lucrative, some not.  I know a few friends have secured jobs via LinkedIn.

For me, it's just a means of last resort when trying to communicate w/ colleagues past and present.

I get one or two recruiters a week asking if I want to leave my job...

[#12]
I have had people (2nd or 3rd degree types) contact me about opportunities due to mutual connections.

Of course I still get solicitations from recruiters, and random connect requests from people I don't know.

I have also used it search for people within my own network.

Overall, I think it's a useful tool amongst many.  And as with most things in life, you'll get more out of it if you put some effort into it.

I get at lease one or two headhunters messaging me each  month.  Nothing really of interest to me though.

It has however been good for staying in contact with previous colleagues who's contact information was lost.

This ^  Back when the Oil industry was doing well, I'd have offers weekly.

Also find their job search to be a bit more relevant than monster and other similar sites

it depends on the region you're in (and the industry)..

In the Construction Industry here in the south, it's been used pretty effectively.

-Have a professional headshot, not some crappy screenshot crop.
-Research the keywords recruiters use for the job you want. Google's Contextual Targeting tool is helpful. Insert keywords in profile.
-Include samples, images and videos of your work. (Ensure they look professional)
-Leave quality and non-generic recommendations for others. They will return the favor.
-I schedule 20 minutes a week to use the site. Simply set a timer and work. The results have been impactful.

I have a friend that gets the same headhunter messages I do.  Every single time, without fail, he will talk to me the next day and tell me he "got offered a job" but ya know...no way he takes it cause he's just making way, way too much money now.

Work in construction management - quite a few headhunters on there, as well as people trying to push their labor services.

I got one inquiry from a real company in my area last year and a few from headhunters over the last couple of years.

I got my current job by answering a posted ad in Linkedin. So far it has worked out. I doubled my salary and improved my working conditions.
3/28/2016 4:53:08 PM EDT
[#21]
Linkedin is the only social media presence that I have. I have only my name, the name of my business out there and zero other info. I use it as a FB analog to find old buddies, that's it.

I have no idea whether anyone is hired off of Linkedin as in my line of work it's all pretty much word of mouth.

AGREED..

my largest jump in salary came from moving to a company that "found me through linkedin".
I was working with a good friend when I made the move, but the company was filled with execs fucking the lower level female employees and I just cant work with someone I have no respect for..

I just get random co-workers or the occasional recruiter that wants access to my connections.
3/30/2016 1:37:24 PM EDT

I get invites from clients all the time.  Never accepted one.  Looks like a zoo full of losers to me, and I'm not a loser.

I've had at least a dozen requests to interview for jobs in my field through LinkedIn.

Linked-in has only worked for me by keeping me in contact/linked with my former work colleagues. Most of the jobs that I've got in recent years have been through these connections.

A little of both.  But even some of the jerking off offers showed me different avenues/industries that I never paid much attention to before.

Yes, but mainly from head hunters.  LinkedIn can be a genuine way to network and stay in business contact with people.  The problem is, lately more people are beginning to treat it like Facebook and it seems that LinkedIn has little interest in flushing those people and that content from the sight.  There are plenty of people who build and maintain solids networks through it and others who just want to have a network of 5000 people, just like their Facebook page.

Yes I have received offers from interviews that spawned from LinkedIn.  Lately it strikes me as a 'professional's' Facebook, but there's still some good info here and there.  YMMV.

Yup.  LinkedIn does nothing but generate spam, cold calls, and "surveys" from thick paki accent sweatshop call centers that basically just want your permission to send more spam in the end.

It's not worth doing.

I get several networking requests. Example "do you know anyone with SQL skills?"
Lately I have received tons of "are you looking" inquiries.
I've done quite a few "first glance" investments of my time into some of the inquiries.
I've had a decent amount of first and second phone interviews.
I've pursued a few of those and done some on site/in person interviews.
I've received a couple of offers or "what will it take" inquiries as a result of the interviews (I turned them all down, I was pricing my market value).
But, I recently accepted an offer from a company (15% pay increase over current, better bonus structure, much better benefits and stock options) that aggressively pursued me after a Gartner Analyst told them, "For what it is you want in a candidate, Procyon is the person you want in the role."

So, not what you know, but who you know?

I think it will be their end, the majority of users and people actually using it to conduct business and share information do not want that stuff.
