Ever thought about getting a FEMA trailer for cheap and putting it in the woods or on the edge of town and calling it home?

This would work if you were single or just a couple, although it takes a certain kind of woman to go for this.

I don't think I could do a FEMA trailer, but a very small cabin/house built to a high standard?  Yeah, I would be down with that.

I've found myself desiring less and less "stuff" the last few years.

Yeah but the FEMA trailers go for $5K or less. Can't build a house, however small, for that.

True.  Be careful of unpleasant chemicals and other major issues with those FEMA trailers.

It's a buyer beware situation for sure. But you may get lucky and find one that is barely used.

Same here! That would be a heck of a deal for a travel trailer.

Er, I've been living in a 19 ft Class B RV for years now.  Pre Katrina, in fact.  We just gave up our apt & moved back into the RV.  The Fiancee wasn't overjoyed, but she wasn't willing to pay for the apt on her own.  That whole job thing in this economy.

Gig 'em,

I could live in a space that size, but the quality would have to be at least on par with the average middle class home. Add a portable washing machine and you're set. Air drying is better for your clothes anyhow.

I could do a shipping container.

You mention living in a shipping container. HERE IS A LINK to the thread about the lady who does just that!
