In most Northeastern states, it is illegal to have a loaded rifle in your vehicle. It's even illegal to lean a loaded rifle against a vehicle, or to even touch your vehicle with one hand while holding onto your loaded rifle with the other. It's violating a hunting law and the intention is to avoid having people poach deer at night, etc. I've heard stories where the game wardens have busted people for it. It doesn't matter if you have a CCW since it only applies to handguns. I've seen pics of people shooting from the bed of their pick-up and was wondering if there were states where the above is legal. |
| I was taking a break while legally shooting in a WA state forest area. I was sitting on the tailgate of my station wagon and had my loaded rifle next to me, it was leaning against the tailgate. A ranger drove up asked if the rifle was loaded I replied that the magazine was but the chamber wasn't. He took the rifle and unloaded it keeping a cartridge. He then handed it back to me and proceded to write me a ticket for having a loaded rifle in a motor vehicle. That was about 25 years ago, cost me $60. |

better get ehm laws changed or y'all will be like here Illegal to Have ANY firearm loaded in a vehicle, for any reason (LEO are exempted of course [pissed]) This also includes cap and ball and flintlock weapons, you gotsta shoot them empty before you can put them in your vehicle... crappy laws |

Even though there is only a very small chance that a game warden will come by, I make sure that I don't have a loaded mag in my rifle if I'm retrieving something from the car. It really is BS. In Canada, a rifle has to be 'unloaded and cased' from 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise ie. legal hunting time. I was out hunting in the U.S. and was mortified when my friend loaded up his rifle (in the woods) before legal hunting time had started. Despite reading through the law book, I hadn't picked up on the different laws between the two countries. |

You are correct C-4, Maine is just about the same as NH in regard to loaded weapons in a motor vehicle, which includes the hood,trunk and truck bed also leaning against the vehicle. And YES many people have been cited for this. A point of interest as long as a person holding a valid hunting license and is actively involved in hunting "afield" they may carry a concealed weapon without the normal permit, BUT may not carry it loaded in and about a vehicle as described above. |

Loaded gun in the car is legal in NV. Longguns can have a loaded magazine inserted but no round in the chamber. However, the State of NV considers your vehicle an extension of your home. So, almost no silly laws here (for now). That's at least what I remember.... LRdrvr |
| I've got a permit to hunt from a vehicle. In KY if your retired military with a disability that prohibits you from hunting from the ground or a stand then the state will give you a permit to hunt from a vehicle. It's pretty cool....see a big buck in a open field.....use your door as a rest.....deer jerky for everyone. |
| FL... used to go shooting at some remote locations. We wold sit in the back of my Pinto wagon, plinking away with a .22. Had some cops come by, wave hello, then go about their business. Of course, that was about 15 years ago. The funny thing was explaining to other students why I had all these .22 casing in my car (it was almost impossible getting them all). |

God, I want to thank you for the great state of Arizona. We have open carry and CCW here in Arizona. Not only can I drive around with a loaded rifle, shotgun, or pistol. I can also have it concealed on myself or in plain view in my vehicle, with my CCW. I could also walk down city streets with a loaded AR15 slung over my shoulder. Completely legal, but not advised. Someone would surely call the cops. I feel pitty on all of you guys. Arizona where the West is still the West! Can't say much for kali. They should move the state of Kali to the East coast. |

Obviously, our federal government needs to commission a study on how ballistic physics and human behavior abruptly change whenever a state line is crossed. These "geographic discontinuities" comprise a phenomenon with no known parallels in the natural world, and thus are worthy of extensive examination. How does the only safe, legal way to carry a firearm in one state suddenly become a dangerous felony in an adjoining state? Let's spend some taxpayer money to find out! |

| In Colorado it is illegal to have a loaded long-gun in a vehicle. You can have rounds in the magazine but you can not have a round in the chamber. You have to have one foot on the ground when shooting from a vehicle so shooting from the bed of the truck is a no-no. I asked the chief DOW officer if it would be legal to shoot from a trailer that was rigged up with bench's for shooting prairie dogs and he could not answer me. |

the laws I have book marked for NY didn't specifically state anything about a vehicle, but I could easily not have all the relevant laws bookmarked so far the only loaded gun I've ever had in the car is my handgun, and I have CCW so I'm ok with having a loaded handgun. I have had unloaded rifles on the backseat while driving |
