So, stopped into a grocery after a nice early am mc ride for provisions, picked up a copy of the Sunday paper for the wife - she used to love the Sunday paper.

She appreciated the gesture, but wasn't impressed withe the first "Newspaper" we've read in over 3 years, so I took a look.

Huge selection of web-based stories over a week old, an opinion piece by a local lawyer about how we shouldn't waste our vote, but should cast it for Gary Johnson
.

And a story about the residents of Tularosa NM (near Trinity, the site of the first nuclear bomb detonation), are begging for a visit from Obama, to see their plight, and for other purposes ($).

And what's with all the extra-cost pics in the obits?

Only useful thing about it was I wasn't in the obits.

Last time I went through Tularosa there really wasn't much there.

I got a free six months from my in-laws. In a month so far, I've read it less than ten times. All the local stuff is on their Facebook page. Sports section is a joke.

My parents get it for the obits, but I've tried to talk them into just checking the paper's website daily.

Same paper will call me three to five times a month trying to get me to pay for it. Same story every time, not worth the money.

Our local rag has the first page forever talking about how real estate prices are going up.

Inside there may be mention of a drunk driver ( no name or race)

Oddly whats missing is the fact that no police log. Its because the cops and fire department, EMTs actually, spend most of their time in the "barrio" dealing with the fucking illegals. If the citizens knew how much time they are there, there might be a riot by rich, liberal hippies.

Did OP whip out his checkbook when the cashier gave the total?

Newspapers will be a thing of the past very soon.

Online is the future, ours said as much recently.  In past years I could spend a good portion of Sunday morning reading the paper and drinking coffee.  Now....maybe an hour.

Not to mention that they are so left wing it makes my head hurt.  If it's not school woes, it's HB2.  They just beat those subjects to death.

I am going to cancel and write a letter explaining that I can't subsidize their left wing lives with my subscription.

Printed newspapers will be extinct in a few years.

OP, you got all the great stuff, you should see a news paper in this area.  Church run Boy Scouts, and recently tantalizing, the druggies getting busted for being stupid.

My grandma passed last year,  and my mom took out an obit for her in the local paper. She had lots of older friends in the area that may have only found out from seeing g the obit.

Not only did they charge close to 150 for it,  and wanted extra for a photo,  but when we saw the printed paper,  the obituaries section was next to a giant advertisement for Castles Superstore (sex/erotica store)

My mom called to complain,  they basically told her to fuck off unless she was an advertiser.

Good riddance Kitsap Sun,  assholes

They only serve as coupon envelopes at this point. Fuckers love buying one paper and wiping out the entire machine.

I used to read the Seattle PI back in the day for Sports and Business. My local town rag is only worth the advertisement for the local market on the back page but even that I can get from the paper's website

Local paper leans very left in a moderately conservative area. I'm surprised it's still around.

I cannot fathom why print media newspapers still exist, but I am told that people like to buy them on Sunday for the coupons.

So the jail blotter was not included in the local paper?

Hell when I was 18 I got posted in the jail blotter in the local paper for criminal mischief, I was still in H.S. at the time and everyone thought it was for drinking, at the time I did not drink.  I got arrested for being involved in a prank that went wrong stealing a 12' tall nutcracker off of a telephone pole, I did not steal it off the telephone pole I stole it from my friends that did to mess with them.  Then they found out that it was in a friends barn and decided to destroy the evidence by cutting it up with a hacksaw.  To end the story I was one of two out of the 12 or so people involved that were over the age of 18 so I was made an example of getting a bigger fine and doing the full terms of probation.

We have a local paper

It's hilarious. Mis-spelled words, grammatical errors, and they foreseen to put much emphasis on fact checking.

I'm pretty sure the only thing keeping it going is the Sunday paper coupon clippers

My area has a little local paper that only covers five towns.
It conveys what is going on in each town, it includes things such as planning,
projects, local HS sports, 4H things with the kids etc. One of the cooler parts is
that is reproduces pages from 100 years ago. It is amazing to read some of the
things that went in the area 100 years ago.

I hope it keep, as reading it on the net just would not be the same.

My wife bought the Houston Chronicle today.  She said it was 4 bucks.  Again I heard, never again.

The largest paper in our state went from a daily to 3 days a week. They solicit me from time to time and I just tell them if I open my wallet it would be for news, not history.

And Investors Business Daily needs to change their name to IBW. This month they went to once a week.
