At one time military ID's were forged quite a bit more often than state ID's. This was before CAC's.

Why do you use your CAC as a primary form of ID in the first place? To get handshakes and thank you's? Try some PERSEC on for size.

When I worked at a bar in a college town we confiscated a boat load of fakes. Some good fakes and some that belonged
to a buddy that kinda sorta looked like them.

Its their bar so its their rules. They get busted for serving underage people with fake ID they can get fined or even lose their license.

Spend your money elsewhere and bring your State ID with you next time.

That's exactly why; he's a guard guy. He only gets to walk around in his ABU's once a month. The only way people will recognize his freedom fighting efforts the other 28 days is if he flashes his CAC at every opportunity.

I'm a guard guy, too. I know. I see too much of this shit.

EDIT: And he's fresh out of boot. He'll grow out of it.

OP, your CAC isn't a token to parade around town because you're proud of your service. It's fine to be proud of what you do, but don't rub it in everyones faces expecting some sort of reaction. Nobody owes you shit, pal.

I would never tell anyone not to be proud of their service, but I don't see what that has to do with using your CAC card.

I've seen other DoD .civs show their CAC cards before.  They try to slyly place their thumb over the corner where it says Affiliation: Civilian while hoping the cashier/waiter/etc only sees Agency/Department: NAVY.

People trying to scam their way into .mil discouts and deals will be the reason these deals disappear.

Use your driver's license.
I understand that it is new to be in uniform, and that you are proud. AD, Reserve, Guard... All have the right to be proud.

Here is 13 years of experience as AD USAF for you: they don't owe you shit. It's the hard part to swallow after Basic and Tech but if you get that mind set it will put you on the path to be a proper ambassador for the USAF and the U.S. Military. About the only thing you should pull out your mil ID for is in uniform necessity/business or if you have asked and an establish, net has a military discount.

The DoD CAC card I had only a few months ago didn't have a birthdate on it.

Maybe it's easier to just make it a rule for state ID's to prevent getting in trouble with the law, and losing their alcohol license.

You're young, and probably not mentored well.  Let me show you how this should've gone:

"Hi!  Looks like fun in there.  I'd sure like a beer!"
"You got ID?"
"Yep!" (proudly whips out CAC card)
"Sorry, brah...We don't accept that as ID.  Got anything else?"
"Oh-sure!  Here's my driver's license."
"What can I get you?"
