I have a door in my house that opens outward which I want to make burglar proof. Or at least slow the burglar down.  I want one of those metal bars that goes across the door and can be locked by a pad lock or other locking device. I see them in use from time to time at businesses but not had much luck finding one. I used google with few results.  A metal gate or something similiar would work also.  Im sure many of you have safe rooms with your valuables inside, so I figured someone could put me on the right track. Thanks..

Couldn't they just pull the hinges out?

Just build one. It would be easy to do.

Yes. That is the reason I need a door bar. A door that opens outward is much harder to kick in. Just ask any SWAT guy that has tried to kick in a door on an old trailer. Most open outward. So yes, someone could pop the hinges and pull the door open. But, with a metal bar going across, it would be much, much harder. It keeps the door pressed firmly against the jam. Worked at a grocery store when I was in high school which had several on outside doors and freezers. Burglars rarely got through them.

Yeah.....But, I have no welder and therefore no welding skills. Maybe I will visit a locksmith or welding shop.

There are hinges with set screws on the pins or pins that replace a couple of screws, or teeth that engage the hinge plate.  All keep you from opening the door by removing the hinge.

As for locking it, you can install two blind side dead bolt lock on the inside, one at the top and one on the bottom..

The hinges would not be a problem. Would not be able to install the dead bolts. Door jamb is all steel. Sticking with the bar idea since it would be easiest.
