Which specific 'loctite' or similar product do you recommend for use with rifles, particularly for keeping the screws that secure the scope to the scope mount from loosening?  When I do a search for loctite, I get dozens of different products.

Also, where can I find this product online?

You want #242 Threadlocker....it's the blue stuff in a little red tube or bottle.

I use and have been very happy with it...nothing that I've used it on has come loose.

It holds tight, but is removeable if need be.

It's also marketed by Uncle Mike's as "Gun-Tite".

I beleive the "blue" is what you want. It will seize the parts but not permantly hold them. They can be broke apart with some effort.

Use the "blue" formula. a little goes a long way. You should be able to find it at your local Wally-World or auto parts store, may even find it in Lowes or Home Depot. A drop of clear nail polish works in some areas.

To clarify: the tube is red and say's 242.

The liquid or the actual product is blue.

This confuses people looking...

Check out Autozone, I picked up a chapstick like loctite there and it has been a lot easier to put the fastener threads onto the stick than to clean up blue spots from the carpet.  Blue Loctite Stick #37643

For the ordinary liquid stuff, there's no need to order it online.  Readily available at any auto parts, hardware, or farm supply store.

Use the purple "wicking" Loctite. It holds screws when tightened down, but not so firm that you strip the head out if you try to remove it.
Even the blue is a bit much for smaller screws.

Had a friend buy the green once. He installed a scope mount and asked why he couldn't get the screws back out.
