Transformers rarely explode. That's just the fuse blowing. Most likely from an animal on top of it. There are also fuses to protect the wires which may go bang when I tree or something comes across them. Stop saying the transformer blew god damnit because it probably didn't, the fuse did. Thank you

I'm not even sure how that could happen, but I can tell you that it sounded nothing like a shotgun. |

You started a thread for a blown transformer on your street?
You need to get out more. |

I'll take your word for it, but I've been going to service calls for 20 years in the most populated areas of MA, with the most average service calls. Maybe 1 in every 1000 "transformer blew up" calls is an actual transformer that blew the top off. It's just a fuse that makes a shotgun sound. |

Like I said, I don't know how that could even happen, but it did. I'm sure it was an old transformer design. It was on an AF base, probably installed in the 50's. ETA: Thinking about it now that I'm older and wiser, maybe it actually got hit by lightening. It was a long time ago. |

Maybe this is uncommon in Maine. In VA it’s very common. Above ground powerlines + trees + ice = bang no power.

Quoted: In 10 years I'm going to LOVE the excuses for "I can't work'' that will be used. ''I can't come to work because I have no power and my car is dead.'' "I can't work from home because I have no power and nothing works." View Quote Should have solar panels on your roof too by then Maybe a small wind turbine in your yard, too depending on where you live. Being dependent on the grid will be what happens to the people who end up living in the cities. |

Quoted: Fuse blew on your transformer or one near you. It sounds like a 12 gauge going off. Ours popped a few months ago. I was within 25-30' of our pole when it happened. Scared the hell out of me. ETA go look at your transformer the fuse is on a lever looking bracket that flops away when it blows. View Quote Hence the nickname shotgun fuses. |

There was an old man from Millinocket
He stuck his dick in an electrical socket. Some old bitch, turned on the switch And his balls to off like a rocket. |

Last home was surrounded by wooded ravines.
Power lines ran through these wooded ravines. Lots of squirrels and broken branches in wooded ravines. I swear if a butteryfly broke wind around that house we would lose power. Sometimes for days but always for 4-6 hours. |

Quoted: Sounded gunshot. Maybe local shot something electric? View Quote Did a work trip to Chennai, Tamil Nadu State in April 2007. Tamil Tigers would vacation on the beaches on R&R from fucking stuff up in Sri Lanka. Stayed at the Chennai Marriott. Muslims in the area, mosque about a block away. Our driver would get stopped going into the hotel gates and the office complex gates so the guards could poke a mirror on a stick under the car to check for bombs. In the office, there were guards at the exterior doors and outside the elevator/stairwell stack on every floor making sure no one carried anything in (or sticky fingered out). So, I was sitting at the bar in the back of the Marriott with a coworker having a beer and snacks. There was a mighty and sharp KABOOM outside and down the street a bit. Lights went off. The bartender hit the floor, my coworker cringed down. Looked at my coworker and said "Transformer" and kept on with my beer and snacks. The kaboom sounded like a transformer blowing, the power went off, no sounds of debris raining down, no screaming, and no follow-up gunfire. Transformer. CSB |
