I have noticed a lot of hate lately for low post counters. While I agree it is often suspisious when interesting things (draw downs, Walmart greeter molestings, gun shop discovery of full autos, etc.) seem to frequntly happen to low post counters. Is it not possible that there are members out there like me who simply follow the old rule if you have nothing intelligent to say, say nothing? Sure I could run myt post count up by +1ing, posting my tags, and all the other BS that clogs the board, but would I be adding anything of value to the board? Do you think my policy is wrong to only post when I have something that I think may actually add something of vlaue to the discussion?

This website is typical of any place with a large number of people. The members form their own little social groups, with acceptance contingent on arbitrary (and meaningless) criteria, and berate anybody who has yet to meet their requirements.

Get used to it.

I don't think people "hate" low post count people at all.  I do think that there is somewhat of a skepticism for low post count people when they post highly unusual or controversial stuff - simply because ar15.com DOES get a lot of trolls that come here just to stir shit and annoy people.

I don't see it as personal - I just see it as a predictable (and admittedly somewhat unfair) reaction to the anonymity of the web and the size of ar15.com.

I don't "like" (or respect) people better because of high post count, but I often do know people better as a result of them having posted a lot over the years.

Depends on whether those low post count posters are posting something controversial or not. We're always aware of those looking to troll the site to cause trouble.

Not even just that.  I know I posted some "non-conforming" posts when I first got here, BUT I stayed around to discuss the matters in the threads and I did so in a civil manner.

It shouldn't be hard to see why those who don't get looked at suspiciously.

If you want to get past the stigma, just "+1" every thread until your fingers fall off.

Or, avoid GD until you get a few hundred posts.

Edit: damn, just fully read your post.  Do it anyway.

Sure.

Like I said, having a high post count doesn't mean I like or respect someone, it just means I know them better.  There are plenty of asshats that have survived many years by staying juuuuusst clear of the CoC violation that would send them packing.  There are also long-term members that are fine for years, and then just lose it at some point and self-destruct, or allow themselves to be provoked into a serious CoC violation.  There's always some degree of turnover, including long-time members and posters with large post counts.

I'm merely saying that, given that we regularly get trolls, stupid kids, etc. posting here just to stir shit, it is not unreasonable to expect skepticism from long-time members when a persona with a very low post count shares a very unsual story, or posts very provocative material.

You'd have to get some of the wolves to post to verify your story, and preferably post pictures.

Post counts to me are cute milestones and THAT'S IT!

I have seen people post here with low postcounts that add so much to a conversation yet people with high postcounts that I just avoid.

Just a number... like age. I have an assistant that is 18 years old that engages in more adult conversations with me than a 44 year old I know.

Just a number.

I have a low post-count.  Thats because I rarely have anything to say.  To be honest, I don't particularly like General Discussion very much, because of all the cheesedicks who hang out here.  I love the technical discussions - I've learned gobs and gobs there - but all the self-proclaimed experts on everything.  Jesus Freaking Christ.

it seems like every arfcommers solution to any woman trouble is 'eject!!!!'

if someones friend does something even slightly wrong its "oh, i'd never speak with that person again, they're dead to me"

The level of absolute self-righteousness here is simply amazing.

But - I read things here every day.  Two or three times a day.  Sometimes I learn something.  Sometimes I laugh at peoples stupidity.  Sometimes its like a freaking train wreck - i just cant stop watching.

Arfcom - I love you, and I hate you, all at once.

(oh, I suppose this raises my post-count by one, which makes me more-worthy/more-of-a-person in the eyes of some)

Yep. Sometimes stepping away from the keyboard has its draw backs. Low post count, fresh air, bothering the neighbors. (ok thats just fun) but you get the idea.

I read a lot more than I post. Hell, for that matter I just post when/if I feel like it or I think I have something to add. God knows I'll never hit that 4 digit count this way. But on the other hand, I'm going to worry about it either.

I take it to mean that if you have more than 10,000 posts on ARFCOM that you have a significantly pathetic life, or you have been a member here for more than 7 years.

I can speak intelligently on this because I have been out of work for 7 months and I have only increased my post count by around 300.

I just simply don't have a lot of BS to add to threads that are already 7+ pages long...

I mostly post in the hometown forums, the survival and AR15 forums.  For me to post in GD is highly uncommon.

I've seen some hilarious stuff posted here, so I like GD.  But the low post count hating can be expected at any big website/message board like this.  Check out the AR15 section, technical, build your own, AR discussion, etc. forums to help avoid some of this.

If you have a low post count, some people will call you a noob.
If you have a high post count, some people will say you have no life.

The best solution is to just not care what "some people" say.

Since Jan of this year for me. That jacked up my count to all of 1.5 or something per day.
