Are they any good? I realize that, at their price point, one should not expect Aimpoint quality, but are they worth buying to mount on backup guns, or are they a waste of time and money?

I hope they're good,  I got one on order.  Just taking forever to come in.  Shop around, I got mine about four weeks ago for $205 shipped.  It's the new GEN III

I put one on one of my ARs, it worked perfectly, ran rounds through the gun, it held zero, never gave me any problems. I picked up an ACOG (Which I had been saving for a while for) and have not figured out what I will use it on next. It is good to go as far as I am concerned.

I have the Lucid HD-7 2nd gen, and I like it alot.  Holds zero, different reticles are nice, solid construction and looks great.  I got the screw in 2x magnifier as well.  2 negatives:  #1 Doesn't come with quick release mount, they have them now but are ridiculously expensive for some reason.  Maybe the Gen 3 comes with them standard?  #2 No flip-up lens caps/covers.  However, you can buy some Butler Creek one's that fit just fine.  Google it and you will find the right sizes.

The HD7 is a rebadged Bushnell, prolly out of some Shanghai shit hole.

They're good, but I think they're too pricey. I'd go with either a Sightmark ultra shot, or a Vortex strikefire.

The HD7 is a good piece of gear.  It works as advertised.  I ran it for about 2 years.

It's just huge for what it is.  My Vortex Sparc accomplishes the same thing in 1/4 the space.

No. made in China.  I talked to the owner.  The one I had was a pre-release for T&E.

I met that guy at Shot Show. Just now realized it after I saw his website though.

Proof that Internet is not always the best place to get information from.

Lucid has an excellent reputation, I think they haven't gained much traction though due to the flip cap issue.   That is, you really don't have any options for the front.

How much of a reputation do they have? I've never heard of them, and I'm here a little too often these days.

Google/You Tube them.  Nothing but good reviews.  They are reasonably priced and perform as advertised.

Run one on my 3gun stag. I have thrown it into barrels, banged it off of barriers and ran it in the rain. Not one failure and has held zero throughout. Even after taking it off and putting it back on it holds zero.
The butler creek caps work great. Looking into the killflash too.
Great optic for the money, and a lifetime warranty.

Did you have to cut out part of the bottom portion of your ocular Butler Creek lens cap to fit around the battery cap?

Damn I forgot about these. I remember reading about them a year or so ago. I just placed an order with primary arms, would have considered one of these although I got a PA multi reticle red dot with 6x magnifier and flip to side mount for the same price. We'll see how it is.

If I upgraded I would consider a lucid HD7 with the variable magnifier. Looks like a nice setup for the price.
