I will post them as I progress.

I replay games that I have beaten...over and over...as time permits, this is round 2.

1. Every time you beat the game you will get a specialty weapon. I had a good number of headshots and was awarded an STI .38 super handgun (M1911A1 type)

2. When you play the Alaskan level again, check under the tracked vehicle near the helipad. You should find an HK MK23.

In the Alaskan level, you will battle a boss named "Crying Wolf". After you beat her, head into the next level "blast furnace", then head back out to where you beat her.

You will see several wolves walking around, DO NOT SHOOT THEM.

They will not hurt you, but will follow you around. If you turn on NV you will see the little "hearts" floating over their heads (a symbol of friendliness)

God, I hated fighting Crying Wolf. The first time took me like 30 minutes, and it consisted of me camping in the radio towers, eating rations, trying to look at the naughty mag while freezing my ass off. The Night Vision only lasted like 20 seconds, because I didn't have batteries.

Anyway, during the Guerilla campaign, after you invade the mansion, there is a picture behind one of the picture frames. Shoot the frame and you'll see it.

For a real nifty pistol (the Solar Gun) take out all the "Beauty and the Beast Corps"..and the Frogs in Advent Palace in Act I..with non lethal weapons. Other weapons you can get are Eva, Meryl and Liquid Ocelot's pistols, though you have to do non-lethal, no alert, no recovery item playthroughs in various lengths of time. I'm not even attempting a Big Boss run (Patriot) until Trophies come out for MGS4 because I am not doing that again.

I like to lie prone under the Snocat and shoot at her and Frog Troopers with the Moisin...hit her in the head three or four times when she comes out of the suit to shoot and it's game over. Doesn't work if you are making a run for a "Elite" ranking though as it takes too long.

I take all the beauty and the beast bitches down with firearms, then when they shed their skin I shoot them with the Ruger Mark II tranq pistol.

EFB, did you check under the tracked vehicle near the heliport?

The MK23 should be there.

Because they dodge half the rounds I fire, and the Mosin does not hold enough ammo for CQB use.

is there a benefit to just knocking them out?  i use the saiga 12 with buckshot.  or a beltfed

I have always thought it was cooler to use less-lethal force.

It makes it more challenging.

Matter of personal preferance.

I used the Saiga with V-rings on some of those female PMCs...they can eat 4 or 5 before being knocked unconcious.

With the bosses, I only use the .22 to finish the job.

Here is what I use to make them shed their armor:
Laughing Octopus- AK102 with GP30 and P90
Raging Raven-Saiga 12 and P90
Crying Wolf- Javelin and the GP30
Psycho Mantis- M60 and her dolls

When Laughing Octopus morphs into the MK2, activate your MK2 and attack with it.

Another fun way to pry them out of the suit is Crying Wolf's railgun...a couple fully charged shots will do it and it even counts as non-lethal for getting them out of thier suits, then you  use the Ruger or a Saiga loaded with V-Rings to put them down.

Yes...you get the Solar Gun if you knock them all out and don't kill any of the Frogs when you fight your way out of the hotel with Meryl and her men.

The Chicken emblem is probably the second hardest one to acquire after Big Boss.

  1. Have at least 150 alert phases
  2. Kill at least 500 enemies
  3. Continue the game more than 50 times
  4. Amass at least 35 hours of play time
  5. Use at least 50 health items.

After I beat the game the first time I unlocked the STI but I couldn't figure out how to use it in the next campaign. What do you do to be able to use it?

Once you meet up with Metal Gear Mk II and get your stuff back you should be able to equip it as normal.

I'm just getting ready to play through for the 3rd time, and I should have just about enough Drebin points to either get the bandanna or stealth. Any suggestions on which is better?

bandana is unlimited items IIRC, and the stealth is well, duh.  Id be inclined to go for the stealth.

You can unlock the bandanna and stealth device.  Spend DP's on other things.

Make a playthrough with no kills (including bosses) or without an Alert and you get them for free. If you can do it in less than 5:30 on Big Boss Hard and use no recovery items you'll unlock the Solar Gun and Eva, Meryl, and Liquid Ocelot's pistols too.

Skip all cutscenes and save every stage (and exit and reload if you get an alert) and you'll be fine. Hardest part is making the bike ride with Eva without using a ration.

[#23]
No, the hardest part is the end where you have to do the silly fighting game.  The frustration level is multiplied tenfold since you can't continue, you have to hit exit twice just be able to exit (with a slight pause after the first exit), and then after you reload the game, you have to skip a mandatory cutscene.  Did I mention that Ocelot can kill you in two hits after the second fighting round?

I never really had problems with the Ocelot fight....the first time I had to reload that was when I did my Foxhound run on Big Boss Hard (took three attempts, I believe). Haven't tried it on Boss Extreme, though. The motorcycle ride itself isn't all that hard....it's making it without having to use a recovery item that is a stone bitch. If you want to unlock the better ratings (and thier guns) you cannot use even one.

Normally I'd agree, but I found that there are too many drawbacks to the stealth unit.
A lot of the places where stealth would be extremely helpful, they don't allow you to use it, which can get incredibly annoying, and as a "special item", using it kills any chance you have of getting the better emblems. Not having to constantly shell out for ammo with the bandanna can be useful, and for concealment I'll just use the Haven camo.

You download the Haven camo using the extras menu, and activate it by selecting OctoCamo[manual]. The bonus is that when not moving you are at 99% concealment, even standing in the middle of a field, the downside is that when you lose health/psyche you lose it at double the rate. Handles all my concealment needs, plus I can use the Young Snake face camo and not the full covered face camo.

If you ever attempt Boss Extreme run, make sure to anchor the PS3 controller with some rope because you will get so frustrated with the game, and it's instinctive to hurl it into the big screen.

During the Ocelot fight, quick dodge to the rear near a ledge, and snake will attempt to keep his balance on the ledge. During the short 2 seconds or so, you are invulnerable, and he can't hit you.
