Hi All,

Just a couple quick questions here and I know it is not gun related but I am hoping the audience will forgive me and understand.

It is getting time to replace my current truck and before I throw doen a lot of $$ on a new one I was wondering if anybody out there has any of the following:

Ford - "F" Series truck or Excursion or Expedition with the '03 diesel, or a V8 or V10 Triton.
Chevrolet - Diesel '02 or '03.

If you do have one of these would you PLEASE drop me an email with the following:

Which vehicle / engine / transmission and if you know it the rear end gear ratio?
2 or 4 wheel drive?
How do you use it? (Is it heavily loaded with cargo or empty most of the time)
What is your average fuel mileage?
Is your home terrain mostly flat (like in Florida) or hilly/mountains?
Have you had any major problems with the engine or transmission and approximate mileage on vehicle.

The big area of concern is fuel mileage, I know the truck will have plenty of power and tow rating for my needs (I currently have an F-350 crew cab 4x4 diesel). When I bought it ('96) the Triton series engine was not available so I obviously went with diesel, (my second one).

I can't ask the dealer because unlike most vehicles, anything rated at 1 ton or more (maybe even 3/4?) is exempt from the federal law requiring the average guestimate of mileage posting like "regular" cars and trucks. All the dealer will say (any of the dealers) is well, it is not to bad, or that it is about the same as the 1/2 ton truck. Of course the 1/2 ton is not available with the diesel and probably not the V10 so that statement is useless.

Anyway, I'm just trying to do a little homework, please forgive the off topic post. In order to not clog up the list with this please reply only to me and don't post on the list. If there are others out there that would be interested in any results of this survey, drop me a note and I will compile (with no names) a summary of the info I get.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you give me in this... Be safe,

JonK

CC F250, V8, 4:10, roughly 16 MPG, 3400 miles. 4x4

CC F250, V10, 3.73, 12.5, according to the vehicles sensors, 5000 miles. 4x4

SuperCab 6.0L F250, 3.73, estimate 20MPG, but only 500 miles so far. 4x4

Our 7.3Ls are heavy flatbeds, normally with a light load, so maybe 12 MPG. 4x2, many of them near or at 100,000 miles.

No major tranny or engine problems. One of the 7.3s needed a new Man. tranny, because the dumbshit who was driving it didn't know how to use the clutch.

Supposedly the Ford ratings, from the factory, are:
V8 16 MPG
V10 12 MPG
6.0L 20 MPG

The first three are auto, the 7.3s are a mix.

Lots of freeway miles.

Dude there is nothing wrong about asking about vehicles. Don't feel guilty.
