MS said they would be letting go roughly 5,000 of their employees and, lo and behold, it seems one of their dev. studios already found itself on the receiving end of the corporation's cost cutting efforts.

Microsoft appears to be have fired the folks who worked on the Flight Simulator games.

"Development sources have told Gamasutra that a large portion of the dev house's staff has been let go - with multiple reports indicating that the entire Flight Simulator team has been axed."

"The Microsoft-owned Flight Simulator is possibly the game industry's longest-running continuous franchise."

How many more are going to bite the dust, I wonder?

No way M$ is going to let their old employees work on a new flight sim.  I'm sure they've got all kinds of no-compete clauses, and even if they aren't enforceable M$ has so much money to litigate they'll be in court for decades.

That and the amount of research and development it takes to make a flight simulator with even somewhat accurate controls is staggering. I'm pretty sure MS owns all that data. That and flight simulators aren't exactly hot items to roll off the shelfs, and this is coming from someone who has owned every MSFS since 4.0.

There will be a void in supply.

Don't get me wrong I have FS10 and the Xpac, but I think the competition for the flight sim dominance could lead to better games.  Think if Madden went under.  Lots of new ideas would surface and it would be very interesting!

So Microsoft killed Flight Simulator 11, Train Simulator 2 and ESP all with one stroke of the pen

a WA WTF member was an artist/renderer for this team.

He also says he's a contractor... and is looking for work!

Contractors prob don't have no-compete clauses...
