I was recently given a Dell laptop as a gift from my son. Microsoft Office Professional was included but it did require the registration with the 25 number product key code for activation.  Unfortunately, the piece of cardboard that contained the number was inadvertently thrown out and now that I need to use MS Office, I'm locked out.

What can I do?

MS Office Pro came installed but after 30 days it locked me out due to the lack of activation with the product key code (done online). I just need the key.

you guys are silly.   calling anyone is not going to help him.   once you lose that number thats it.   you have to buy it again

what i suggested is a program that will search the registry for the key and display it

Will this program display a key that was never entered?

We've gotten numbers from Dell before,
and it sounds like the key was never entered, so I don't see how searching the registry is going to help him.

good point,  thats right the trial version's require you to type in the product key.   what a retarted way of doing it

either way they won't help him.

the best thing to do if you have a son or daugther thats a student is to buy the student teacher version of office.   around $129

It has a 30 day free trial. You have to BUY a license to continue using it. Sucks, eh?

They threw away the Product Activation Code. It was apparently purchased with the laptop.

As others have said, call Dell. I know I've had no problem calling MS when I lost the key to my XP CD. They just gave me a new number. Now the caveat is that I'm registered and they know it. But if it came with your laptop Dell should be able to help you.
