My daughter is about ready to complete her first year at college. So far the grades are good and she is taking school serious. She is asking for a new computer, a MacBook pro.  These things are not cheap. Is there any place to get a better price or does Apple keep the price fixed on these things?

you can get about 10% off with a student or corporate discount...

The apple store will have refurbs 20%-35% off.

For what it's worth they are close to coming out with the latest generation i7 processor.  I've heard spring to fall time frame.   I don't know if it's worth waiting for or not but the mac community is anxiously awaiting the update.

I have a mid 2010 15" mac book pro with a first generation i5.  I upgraded ram to 8gb, and put in a 500 GB ssd.  It fine for my uses - surfing, autocad lite.  It would not do will in photo or graphics intensive rendering applications.
