I did some research and according to what I'm reading the answer is no, you cannot go from Tiger to Lion you must have Snow Leopard installed.
Why? because in order to upgrade you must access Apple's App store which is not supported in Tiger. Even if you buy the Lion installation USB drive you must have Snow Leopard installed in order to use it as it is only an 'upgrade' and not the entire OS. |

If you wanna get it as a download from the app store, you will need to upgrade to 10.6.8 first, and then upgrade to Lion. Lion is now being sold at the Apple store on USB drive, which will allow you to go straight from Tiger to Lion, but it costs $69. You'll be paying $39 for a USB drive that would be $15 if it was a normal drive. Do you know anyone who has a Mac with Snow Leopard? If you do, they can download the Lion DMG file from the app store, and you can then write it onto any generic 4GB or bigger USB drive. |

Get a copy of Snow Leopard (10.6), then you can download Lion from the app store. Make sure your Macbook is compatible first - the Core Duo machines wont run Lion, you need a Core 2 Duo or better.
