MacKeeper is usually highly praised by some and loathed by others. I have never used it, and instead use an app called Maintenance to keep the MBP running smoothly. If you are getting a lot of pop-ups and are using Firefox, install Ad Block Plus as an add on. It gets rid of everything even remotely considered an ad. It works so well that it even disappeared all the ads on Arfcom; I told it to make an exception because I will support the vendors who support my favorite websites.
