though the Katana held up against 6 shots... the 7'th one killed it.
That katana was well made but looked like a store bought 440 (forgot the exact number) Stainless steel one.  It didn't apear to have a heat treating on it so I must say that Katana's are well made.

Many BP vest can't withstand 1 shot from a .50 BMG but the katana out did them by taking 6.

Katanas are well made, if they are traditionally made.   Although modern steel that is differentially tempered can rival the best hand forged Japanese blades.   Japanese steel basically sucks compared to steel from other areas of the world, as far as I've read.   The differential tempering is what really makes the Katana a unique weapon.

It is pretty amazing that it held up to 6 rounds of .50 BMG.  That's some serious energy.

Oh yeah... and it is a dupe... but it's a good video.  Wish we could get it translated, tho.

This is the first time I've seen it. It's really amazing.

BTW: This vid does not work using the Opera browser. MS IE works good.

Basically, you're probably right about the tempering. That is the whole secret of making a good cutting instrument. Notice even today, all of the modern cutlery manufacturers tell you what exact brand of raw steel they use, but what they don't tell you is their heat-treatment process, which is a highly guarded secret, much like that of the sword makers of ancient Japan.

Of course, you wouldn't be shooting the Katana anyway.

No, but a really fast ninja could cut a few of your bullets in half in time to get away from your onslaught
