Is it safe to assume that USGI mags without dates were pre-ban? What if you have mags without dates on the body but are NIW with the date on the bag, is that good enough for the men in black?

they are pre ban unless proven otherwise, and without dates I dont see how it could be proven otherwise.

Unless yor wrapper is dated post Sept. '94, and you get caught with them still wrapped in a AWB enacted state like NY, it's not a problem.

They could be pre-ban or no-ban mags.  If you loose the wrapper during a boat trip, they're good to go.

the wrappers all say 3/91, so I am good to go, my concern was that if I lost the wrapper I would have to prove they are actually pre-bans right?

if there is no date on the mag, then you dont have to prove a thing, they are pre ban

I thought the burden of proof was on the prosecutor, hence innocent until proven guilty?

there should be no hassle at all, they are preban mags, if the LEO doubts it(he wouldnt have any reason to) then ask him if he is accusing you of being a liar and a felon.

well those are my SHTF mags anyway so if that were the case the LEO opinion wouldn't really matter much at that point

Don't wait till SHTF to use em!  When zombies are crawling in the windows it's too late to find out that your magazines are full of sand, the black talon bullets you paid $50/box for at a gun show have turned to rust and your AR's barrel is full of potato bugs.  Train like you fight, fight like you train.

what is the best way to test a mag, one cycle fully loaded?

Find the flat end that has writing on it. Try pushing ammunition into it. If it won't take it, the mags are defective. Send them to me. I buy defective mags for $5 each.

yeah it doesn't work. they are all defective...

you can hand cycle them to check(remove your firing pin if you are using live ammo!) or just take them all to the range and try them out

My preban mags in NY(all without the date stamp) look exactly like my PA new production mags(also not stamped). I can't tell them apart now that they all have green followers. The only date was on the plastic wrapper and I tossed them after I opened the mags.

JBravo223, you are good to go, you have good preban mags.

From one NYer to another.
