[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Mandarin Chinese language programs ?

anyone ever try any of these computer programs for languages.

I want to learn to read/speak Mandarin Chinese to augment my Shaolin Kung Fu studies (my Sifu is fluent in Chinese and Korean) and I have a native speaker friend who I can ultimately practice with, in the fullness of time.

I know of Rosetta Stone and L-Lingo, not sure who else. looking for the best bang for the buck, like anyone else ;)

Not "Teach Yourself" and not Penton Overseas. The "In a Flash" cards are promising. There's an American children's songs in Chinese CD that really works.

Pimsleur sucked bad for Arabic and German and Berlitz was the best I ever had for German.

I used Berlitz for French....and it was excellent.

For the last few years, off and on, I've been teaching myself Mandarin using the Pimsleur CDs. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

They are excellent....but they cannot help you with the written language.

Pimsleur method in other languages has been outstanding.

I have heard to stay away from Rosetta Stone.
