I have a Marine Unit of 800 that does not have access to a PX. I am hoping that fellow ARFCOMERS will rise to the occasion and help them out. They are looking for letters and care packages, and the items they are looking for is not alot. If you would like to help please PM me and I will give you the POC to send it to.

Here is what they are asking for.
Baby wipes
>Tuna fish
>Instant oatmeal
>Cookies
>Basic hygiene stuff
>Beef jerkey
>Energy Bars
>Ramen noodles/cup o' Soup
>Propel, Crystal Light or other single serving drink mixes

Thanks in advance for the help.

With veterans day rapidly approaching, I hope this thread stays bumped to the top of the page by ARFCOMMERS. Experience with this board tells me it will.

BTW, MrsWildWeasel, 5sub and I are involved with a similar project with Soldiers of B Company, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division.....which is now serving in Iraq. I believe you recently posted in that tacked thread at the top of the forum here.

Granted, this is a effort that only involves about 12 or 13 troops and we cycle through the list about once every week or two, assigning packages to the next Soldier on the list as we go. But if there's a way we could add a few guys from this unit to that effort in the tacked thread, I'll be glad to go ahead and do so if you think it might help.

I'll be PMing you for contact info as well. I won't be able to send much in the way of packages because of my committment to this other unit. But I very much can write a bunch of letters and send Christmas/holiday cards to these Marines, as well as a few boxes of stuff from time to time.

Thank you everyone. If you would like to add these guys to your other thread please do so. I know what ever they get they will be greatful for. I only have a single POC for the whole bunch of them if that makes it any easier, or I can see about getting all their names if needed.

I have a box I just put together for these guys to get sent out quickly. I had enough stuff left over after filling two boxes for some guys in the 3rd ID that I'm supporting to make a 3rd one for these Marines. It contains moist wipes, drink mix, tuna, some instant oatmeal, Ramen Noodles, beef jerky, spaghetti and meatballs, candy, cups of Kraft chocolate pudding, Lipton side dishes (packs of easy to prepare rice based meals that only require water and a heat source),  and a couple of decks of playing cards. I'll be getting that into the mail either tomorrow or Monday. I will also direct letters and Christmas cards to these guys.

BTW, as a helpful tip, I would suggest using the flat rate boxes you can get from your local post office. No matter how much your boxes weigh, it'll only cost you $8.95 to ship them. The only downside is that you have a limited amount of space. But larger non-flat rate boxes are going to cost as much as $25 or more to ship based on my experiences. Also, you will need to fill out a customs declaration form for your package listing the contents. So make sure you make a note of what's in the box before you seal it up. Finally, certain items such as pork and "skin" magazines are suppose to be prohibited items. Therefore if you decide to include anything like that, be sure to list it as something else or not at all. Otherwise the package will be returned to you.

I have to say you all are great. I know these guys are going to appreciate what you are doing for them. Thanks again.

This reminds me. Time to get ready for the periodic Pic sends toilet paper to the troops mailing. It's been a while.

After all, someone's got to take care of those assholes overseas so the assholes can take care of the brave troops attached to them.

Your daughter sounds like a quality teacher. Not only does she cover regular classroom material, but she also wishes to teach her students about life, helping others and showing appreciation for our troops. We need more teachers like her in this nation.

In my letter I'm currently writing to Major Steinhilber, I am giving him the direct links to the two active care package threads in GD so he and/or other guys in his unit can come here and see what's going on personally. I also invited him or one of his men to join the site if they wish to do so, so they can post updates and photos and stuff. It's always nice to be able to see the Soldiers and Marines we are helping and know firsthand that our help is making a difference.  We have found in the other threads here that such things make people want to contribute even more. So we'll see how that works out. I also told him that if he or one of his men actually liked the site here and wanted to join that I'd buy them a membership.

Is this alright with you MrsWildweasel? I wanna ask to make sure before I mail the letter. Afterall, this thread is your's. I have been so consumed by the thread for the 3ID guys that I find myself just jumping in everywhere at times. So if I start to overstep my bounds here, please kick me in the head or slap me or something. Hehe.
