[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Mass Effect 3 (Page 1 of 3)

It came out yesterday. I just looked at Gamespot.com and they've given it a 9.0 out of 10 gamescore for all 3 platforms. So to the people who've purchased it and already started playing, how's it fair against the first 2? |
|
Im enjoying the hell out of it. They did an amazing job of capturing the air of desperation of the fight.
Only negative to me is the new character, James the trying-so-har-to-be-a-hispanic-stereotype-meat-tank. He spends alot of time sitting on his ass on the Normandy while Im out kicking ass with my Brogan and pals. EDIT: They make fun of Garrus about "calibrations" and there are a bunch of other good in-jokes between characters. |
|
Graphically it's pretty phenomenal. I'm not too far into the story, but it's not bad. My biggest complaint was that I was unable to import my female Sheppard into the 3rd one. Plus I was unable to recreate the look. Pretty sad. I like the new galaxy system. No more buying probes. You get probes. If you use them, the reapers eventually get alerted and chase you on the map. pretty cool feature. |

Its on its way should arrive this afternoon, I can't wait to play it. I got a friend who says it plays differently (combat mechanics) but still an amazing game. I'll say this: Biotic powers are more useful for crowd control and herding than direct damage (at least with my builds), and the special ammo types REALLY make a difference, especially Cryo rounds. Handling is tight, and the difficulty level has been tweaked upwards a bit from 2 in my opinion. Running about in the open with multiple enemies firing on you is a really good way to get dead quick, as it should be. |

EDIT: They make fun of Garrus about "calibrations" and there are a bunch of other good in-jokes between characters. That's good. I've always hated that with movies or games. When you're literally fighting for your lives and the human race, you never really feel like it's nearly as important as it should be. Like with Halo: Reach, the commercials made you feel like that this was the future version of Pearl Harbor and you got emotional about it. But when you played the actual game it was like.... meh. |
|
Can't wait to pick it up. I'm out of the country with work (and my laptop would laugh at me if I tried to play it...) til the end of the month...Loved the first 2 and the demo was good for this one. Though...I didn't like the 3 options for gameplay in the demo. Obviously chose/would choose to use the traditional ME gameplay. |

The facial structure was the same but the hair color was different and all her renegade scars from the 2nd game were gone which sucked because they were badass |

Do yourself a favor and avoid any discussions about it on the internet in places less freindly than arfcom. I've already had a couple plot points spoiled for me. |

Quoted: That's the plan...I'm not going near any of the boards for this game...and hope folks here use the spoiler tags for anything in it ;) Quoted: Can't wait to pick it up. If you preordered the digital deluxe edition of the game and didn't get your codes for the Argus, Valkyrie, N7 Defender Armor, contact EA Live Chat Help and get them. I never got my N7 Warfare Gear DLC code and had to contact them to get it. Only took 5 minutes.
The battlefields where actual reapers are involved are amazing. I LOVE that sound they make when the reapers fire their main guns. If I was making a movie/show that featured space battles, that's how the main guns on the baddest ass ship would sound. The production values are phenomenal, but I wish they had hi-res textures. The day when the PS4 and XBox 720 come out cannot get here soon enough. The 6 year old hardware inherent in the current gen consoles are seriously holding back PC immersion because they have to cater to the weakest link. Quoted:

I do take him out on missions, but when he started calling me Loco I told him to STFU. |

Should I play the first 2 first? You should play 2 AND 1 first. I mean obviously you don't have to, but it's like watching Return of the Jedi without watching the first two movies. Thanks. I'll save some money getting them cheaper as well. I might just go pick up the first one tonight. |

Got it the night before last, after having read the script, and watched the endings on YouTube.
Fuck Jennifer Hepler and Mac Walters. Anybody who thinks the final chapter of a trilogy is a perfect time to not only retcon the entire backstory, but do so in a manner that involves mulitple plotholes and is just plain old contrived, should not be allowed to write the story to a game, TV series, movie series, or anything. Still probably going to enjoy the game for the gameplay and character interaction though. |

Playing all three Mass Effect games in order, and following through to the endings, is like watching the first two Star Wars movies, and then going straight to Phantom Menace. |

After the deservedly harsh criticism those received, I'm rather suprised to hear bioware kept her around. |

My little brother got it last night and I was watching him play for a while. Things I noticed.
You had to pay extra to play online. Took forever to set up. Close to 700 Mb download wtf did they actually put in the disc. Setting up characters took addtional time. First hour of playing involved probably 40+ minutes of watching movie scenes you couldn't fast forward through. By the time I left his place I was laughing at him for paying 60 bucks for what I thought was a crappy game. This was on xbox other systems might be different. |

That 700mb download was additional bonus content that he got because he purchased the collectors edition, folks who got the vanilla one didn't get that. |

You might be right about online I don't know it's just what he said when he was trying to start playing the game. Maybe it's free for gold members only or something? I don't play xbox so my knowledge is limited. He bought it new from gamestop. |

The paid download is only for an extra character and bonus skins for your crew members. You don't have to buy this content to play the game. Yeah, the first hour involves a lot of story. It's a fucking RPG, if you're wanting to skip the story you may as well play something different. The story is the REASON for this game to exist. |

meh after DA2 and SWTOR. anything EA or Bioware is off my list.. I will pass.. DA2 was a disaster. I'm not gonna say it was an awful game worth of a 1 or even a zero, but I would say it is easily only a 6.5ish out of 10. I don't spend $60 for a mediocre game that I feel like I have to force myself to play to get my money out of it. That's pretty bad when you consider the original was easily a 9.5 or better. Steam says I have something like 550 hours logged on the original. DA2? 25 hours. Never went back to play it again.

My teenage daughter is loving it. Only downside is she's playing on an older tv and can't read everthing. Why can't they give you the option to make the fonts larger?? She didn't have this problem with the previous two. Might as well buy an HD TV. When the newer consoles come out, I doubt they will even work on an older TV. If I watched TV shows on a television or gamed on one I couldn't imagine playing on an older low res TV. |

The scene with Grunt after the Rachni queen is even more badass than the HEAT bank robbery.

Should I play the first 2 first? DICK! You get to play them back-to-back-to-back. As you've already been told, yes, play them both first. Heads up on the planet scanning you'll be doing lots of in the first game: it gets simplified for ME2 and not as boring. Also the weapons/item management is thoroughly overhauled for ME2 over ME1, so don't get angry and assume the following games didn't fix the issues players asked for, they do. Here are the gameguides for ME1 and ME2, with ME3 coming soon...probably before you finish ME1. http://guides.gamepressure.com/?gameguides=search&SEARCH=mass+effect |

Almost got the second one, but decided to read more into why it got such a bad rep. and stayed away. I'd rather get my ass handed to me by giant monsters in Dark Souls. No retconning or plotholes there, just holes....in my head.

...so what's wrong with the story, without any spoilers? I haven't picked it up yet but I was hoping it was going to be good. There's nothing wrong with the story, I'd go as far as to say that's it's better then 2 but maybe not quite as good as 1 (nostalgia rose-colored glasses maybe, I loved that game). If you've played the first two it's more of "usual combination" (get him, get this, do that, build strength for the end game), not that that is a bad thing as they captured the atmosphere well. There may be some small holes in the plot or some such but it's not something I've noticed and no reason to not enjoy the game. If you liked 2 I'd bet you'll like 3. |

Except my choices keep fucking shit up. ![]() ETA: Somehow I missed Garrus on Palavan???? |
