Massachusetts lesbian bar nearly bullied out of town (Page 1 of 5)

Holy crap I thought the internet had a hiccup and this was a repost from the Covid era. Nope. Trouble is a brewin' at this watering hole. A Massachusetts lesbian bar descended into a catty culture war and faces a potentially business-ending boycott from sudden enemies who flipped out when the owners lifted a longstanding mask mandate for just one night a week. Greenfield's Last Ditch Bar scrapped Saturday mask requirements on Aug. 31 in a bid to boost business but the move completely backfired, sparking uproar from members of the small city's queer community. Some critics dramatically likened the decision to a "mass disabling event," a "eugenicist" attack and a host of other hot-button terms that escalated to threats of violence. |

The article is full of great gems like this: Sales had already been slumping due to the bar’s floundering business model that includes rules like, “Nobody will be barred from entry due to lack of funds,” and “Poor and unhoused people are welcome in the space.” The mask mandate was another rule, as Last Ditch vowed ableism — infringements on disabled patrons enjoying the venue — was strictly barred. That meant the face coverings were required to protect anyone who was immunocompromised. It remains unclear how anyone was expected to drink while masked. The bar’s three owners — one a drag performer using it/its pronouns, another now in clown school — began to slip behind on their bills and couldn’t pay themselves or even their staff. Management first tried to apologize for its supposedly flippant post, writing “We are sorry for our passive and dismissive tone of our change to the norms and schedule impacting the most intersectional of us.” But that only fanned the flames — because Last Ditch’s post failed to include written “alt text” describing the written message for visually impaired people. “This is not an accessible post,” somebody commented. “It indicates the lack of care or interest in Disability intersectionality.” Then things were really set off when one woman attending in-person, a therapist, said she wished everybody could be there so they could talk together. “It’s messed up that the mediator is dismissing those attending virtually. That’s not accessibility,” somebody wrote, while others claimed it was “wildly unsafe” to have a licensed therapist who they claimed could use her power to force them into mental hospitals against their will. “A lot of people are calling for an acknowledgment of harm and I’m hearing a WHITE therapist … center[ing] the feelings of a majority white and white adjacent staff,” another offered. “I never really wanted this,” she said. “I don’t think I’m doing a very good job.” Her critics weren’t impressed. “You chose to use your time to spill tears and center your feelings,” one person responded. “This is incredibly racist and deflecting behavior.” Rules of the house: Attached File |
| I know a woman who was in a lesbian “marriage” for four years. She said that ALL (her word) lesbian relationships end up abusive, given time. That inevitably, one woman physically and mentally dominates the other but without the societal constraints of a heterosexual relationship to keep it in check. |
Life is short. If you are waiting for “someday”, it’s here!

I work with a woman who is in a lesbian marriage. She's actually a decent co-worker and we get along well but I never pry into her marriage or personal life. They did just have a daughter, with her wife being the carrier of the child. I honestly just try not to think too much about the details of any of that..it's none of my business for one thing, and secondly while I overall don't have a problem with two people of either sex getting married if that leads to happiness for those people, bringing a child into such a relationship is something that I still need to think on as I am firmly in the camp that a child needs to be brought up with the influence of both a male and female somehow involved in their upbringing. |

If you think this is bad, there's a cold war going on in PNW lesbian bars that don't want trans in there because they're dudes with penises. The trans people get all upset and start stalking the lesbians and there's been fights. Bars like this one are probably nothing but trans women, hence the masks. Real lesbians don't want anything to do with troons but the troons want to force them to have sex with them. |

Yup this goes for a anything socially or potentially legal too. Two over emotional females with hormones left unchecked. No man to keep them in check and in balance. |

Clearly this is the fault of the bourgeoisie, not their deranged worldview or unviable business model. |

I know a number of the LGB crowd. It's rare to see partnered men abuse each other but it's also rare to see partnered women NOT. |

What mask mandate? And if you’re so frail and immunocompromised that you’re petrified you’ll catch something just from being out in public, maybe you should just stay home. |
ProTip: Never pick a fight with a tree planter. He swings a hoedad for 9 hours a day, carries 30-40 pounds of seedlings on his back, and has 12-14 friends just like him hiding out on the other side of the junk butt pile. They will fuck your shit up.

My old Thursday night poker game was about half lesbians. And I played racquetball with one as well. The drama was profound. |
