A friend serves in the SF. Another recovers from wounds. Four Special Forces soldiers killed in action today in Afghanistan. Triple volunteers. After almost three years of reading Arfcom I know I’m (mostly) preaching to the choir here. Memorial day is not just a holiday to mark the beginning of summer. It’s a day to remember and honor those who have given the “last full measure of devotion”. Read the Gettysburg Address It’s shorter than many Arfcom posts - you’ll like it. My thanks and admiration to those who serve, and to those who have served. My heart aches for those families and friends that have suffered the loss of a loved one. Every soldier, sailor, airman and Marine is a gift to our nation. I hope we remain worthy of their sacrifice. God bless the USA and all who serve her. Mike |

For the most part most of the sheeple through the USA regard it as the beginnning of vacation, the fact that some people died on the battlefield has never even entered their minds. From: dictionary.reference.com/holidays/memorial.html A flag as a piece of cloth used as a standard, signal, or symbol in English dates to the late 15th century. As far as the American flag goes, there are many theories about its origin, with the story of Betsy Ross being the most famous. On Memorial Day, the flag is flown at half-mast, a symbol of mourning, from sunrise until noon, and at full staff from noon until sunset. |
