Wife is considering buying a 2012 GLK350 Mercedes Benz if her car gets totaled by USAA. Has 41k miles, pretty much everything under the sun for options ( I guess...I don't know a lot about Mercedes standard options). Definitely has more stuff than her 2013 Chevy Equinox LT (4 cyl) with 37k miles. The GLK350 has a price of $25.6k I don't really like the body style. I like the ML350 more, but it's more expensive. We did see a 2010 ML350 4MATIC for $25k, but it had 65k miles So, how are the GLK Class SUVs? |

They're nice. Just keep in mind that when they break or need maintenance, they're expensive as a mofo. Quoted:

Is it under factory warranty? What kind of aftermarket warranty can you get? Hopefully you see a theme... Listen to them. |

The vehicles are out of warranty, and maintenance is INSANE on them. When I had mine the cost for an oil change was $125...with me doing it myself. Take a look at the cost of some of those options and how much it would cost to fix them if they break, the electrical components are the most expensive. |

I have about 4 years experience with the '12, '13 and '14 Glk's. Our '12 GLK was Certified Pre-Owned and it had the less powerful engine, in '13 the 350 gas V6 was taken from the E-Class Sport and put in the GLK, major upgrade in terms of power and refinement. The '14 GLK we got new a year ago and it is a Blutec diesel 4 cylinder and IMHO it is a major step-up from the '13 V6, just more enjoyable to drive, gobs of torque and diesel mileage of 34 average. The diesel also comes with standard all-wheel drive. The '12 on gas mileage you should get 20-21 average, the '13 has engine stop-start and it still averages 21 mpg, lol. All in all, with both gas and diesel engines, these 3 GLK's have been bullet proof vehicles for us. No problems ever, we just go to the dealer for routine maintenance. We are still running the '13 and '14.
As for the ML, we had a '05 V8 500 series, put 155,000 miles on it, bullet proof. And then Mercedes gave us $5000 on the trade-in for that ML on the new '13 GLK back in 2012, I was expecting squat. In terms of size, the ML was way more useful for hauling crap behind the seats/with seats laid down, the GLK is tiny back there. We will go back to the ML-class next time just because of the size difference and they are now putting the small diesel into the ML. You don't mention where your potential GLK '12 is from, I would urge you to check out the certfied Mercedes pre-owned vehicles, sometimes you can get really fine deals. Hking |

Thanks. One side of me wants her car fixed plus reimbursed for diminished value (hopefully) so we can finish paying it off so i can buy myself a new vehicle (My Titan is at 170k miles). The other side of me wants a new car to replace the equinox because it's ugly. Wanted her to at least get the Terrain. We had an awesome offer on a new 2013 Ford Edge at the time (Feb 2013), but she liked the body of the Equinox better. Lately, she had been wishing she had gotten the Edge because of better resale and the looks grew on her. |

Hopefully you see a theme... never waste your money on a fucking extended aftermarket warranty. if you haven't figured it out they are scams. call on one, get a price, put that amount into an account, use it only for the repairs the warranty would cover and enjoy the extra money when it would have expired. these things get "denied" for so many little bull shit reasons its not even funny, and the stuff they do cover they only pay for cheap aftermarket parts, they are SCAMS. trust me and save your money. I don't have enough experience with the GLK to have an opinion on the vehicle. |
