Did anyone catch this show on Animal Planet?  What are they trying to say?  Is this some stab at the Navy for sonar testing or an attempt at creating a new cryptozoology craze?  Are they actually claiming the existence of "sea-apes"?

My real question is can I get a little one for my reef tank?

I saw it partway through.  When they were looking at and analyzing the body and the bones.  I thought it was just another medical mystery type show, maybe some new kind of seal or something.  When they got to the mermaid aspect of it, I started questioning it, but a part of me was like, "duuuuude, that is so totally true."

It's a neat program, but a complete hoax.  I think they oversold it.  If they'd stopped with the government conspiracy part of it, I think it would have been a fun show that would get people to question and think.

Turned into an anti-Navy piece though.  Too bad.

Oh, and "Dr. Rebecca Davis" is hot.

I did a little internet fishing to find out what the deal is, real or not?
The special is a concocted story around a few small facts, the main fact is the sound they talked about is real, the sonar tests were real, everything else is speculation, the scientists aren't real, they are actors.
Facts:  Sonar tests and unidentified sounds
Made for TV hype:  Everything else.

Mermaids:  The Body Found:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1816585/  Lists actors on the page
Andre Weideman played Dr Paul Roberstson:  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1382718/filmoyear
You might recognize Dr Becky Davis:  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1017942/resume

The Aquatic Ape theory is REAL TO ME. I don't care what your 'science' has to say about it!

Now back to work on that Zero-Point module I bought out of the back of Popular Mechanics...

I understand it is complete BS but I just don't understand why Animal Planet is showing it.  I'd say it's a great topic for a bad syfy movie but come on Animal Planet, I expected better from them.  What is the reason for this fantasy stuff?

When I was a kid they used to advertise "Sea Monkeys" in the back pages of comic books.

Dating a professional mermaid.  According to her, they eat sailors and pirates and need to be kept wet.  And no, no pics cuz it's a small community and I might end up suffering the fate of a sailor or pirate if I posted here.

The one on the left.

The fish head is too much. The other has to have some kind of hole to stick it in and can at least give BJs and tug jobs.

Nope.  Hate to disappoint but super clean from being in the water all day. They are water freaks.  Shower all the time.  Probably TMI.  Or reconsidering, TMI anywhere but here...

Just watched this POS program and am amazed that anyone would engage in such garbage film making.

I'm also amazed that Discovery Networks would actually buy such a total piece of crap.

Even the alleged closure/seizure of their Web-site - www.believeinmermaids.com - is a fraud.

The Discovery Networks brand just took a major hit.

And now thousand of anti-Navy, eco-terrorist hippies will have a new cause.

edit: New series from Discovery: Mermaid Wars.

I'd prefer "Mermaid Whores" personally.......................and I'd bet the rating would be much MUCH better.
