He believes the whole thing, I thought he was joking at first but he truly believes it! He’s the father of my daughter’s friend and she was unfortunately taking an hour to get ready to leave so he got to taking…
Gravity isn’t real, the Earth is flat, the firmament holds the stars and moon and the upper water back, dinosaurs are a hoax, the existence of atoms is debatable, etc. I’m and engineer and tried to explain basic principals to him (like F=MA which is why a truck has more downward force than a pebble) but it was just onto the next proof that nothing is what “scientist” tell us before I could get anywhere. Huge mistake. I never met anyone so eager to truly believe anything that goes against the mainstream before. His proof was based in believing one YouTube video over a mountain of verifiable evidence for everything. I didn’t realize people could actually be like this, I truly thought this was all an inside joke until today

I feel like many flat earthers must be this way. He is a simple guy who believes people who tell him things he believes in. He is then surprised when he tries to incorrectly explain basic physics to an engineer and didn’t know how to respond when explained things like mass.
Once you believe all science is somehow a grand conspiracy, anti science becomes your truth. I fully agree all things you hear and read should be fact checked but use some common sense and believe SOME science for crying out loud. It was a wild ride. I’m still trying to process what I heard. |

We have one at my work, same thing from him. He has no understanding of how any of it works, can’t even come close to explaining it, but 100% believes the earth is flat.
I tried one time to prove him wrong and I felt dumber for it. Now I just mock him viciously. |

I once had to eat lunch next to a guy who thought it was criminal that airliners didn't have ejection seats.
When he learned I was an aerospace engineer, he told me I should be in jail. Oh, oh no, and he didn't stop there. This was my wife's department luncheon, so it would have been a bit uncouth for me to murder her colleague on the spot. After a (surprisingly successful) explanation of how insane it would be to have an aircraft armed with several hundred ejection seats, and the immense unlikelihood of anyone surviving the monumental clusterfuck politely referred to as "egress" ... he then relented, but then insisted that if not ejection seats ... each passenger should have a parachute. We were at a Carrabba's. In Columbus. Georgia. It was at that moment that about a dozen dudes, in spiffy haircuts, at neighboring tables, turned and looked at me. As if to say. "We got a shovel and a few minutes to spare, if you need." |

I met two a while back, and actually took them out on my boat to prove to them the earth was round.
Took them a few miles out in the ocean where you couldn't see land anymore, and as the sun went down you could see the curvature of the earth, and I asked them if the earth was flat why could you see the curve. Not even that was enough to convince them, I gave up and just told them it had to be tough going through life that stupid. So, I hauled ass all the way back in 4ft waves, my front seats have suspension, they wanted to ride up front where it was warmer lol, not a nice ride home for them. Pulled up to the dock and they fell onto the ground saying they'd never get on another boat again. |
