| I was waiting to catch a plane at DFW this morning and Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) sat down next to me. I recognized who he was and introduced myself. He was very friendly and we briefly chatted about the economy and he asked me a few questions. Politically I pretty much agree with him so no confrontation. He was on the same flight out if DFW I was on too and I did notice he flew coach, not first class. Overall it was interesting. |

Did the heavens open and light come down to anoint him the chosen one?.......Oh, wait, my mistake that's the Media Spotlights on Obama. |
| When I was stationed in Alaska I had a few occasions where I did stuff with Ted Stevens. Politics aside the man was something special. When he recently died in a plane crash in Alaska I noticed the media was quiet about his WWII service and the fact he was a Flying Tiger. I was at a few ceremonies with him and I went to lunch with him in the Capt Cook in Anchorage once. He was a damn fine American and really liked service men and women. He had an office in Anchorage in the same building I had one. We bumped into each other in the local coffee shop a few times and I would be in uniform and he always paid for the coffee. |
| He is one of the smartest Senators we have. If only other politicians were as ethical as he we would be much better off. i hope he runs for higher office after this term is up. He is a strong believer in term limits and stands by his word. He is one of the best senators to argue against outrageous spending and because he is a doctor one of the best to argue against the health care bill. |

Back in the 80s, I was in an airport once standing at the ticket counter when I heard a commotion behind me.
Turned around, and Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill was standing right behind me with his entourage. (This was either in Washington D.C. or Boston, but I don't remember anymore). |

thats always cool to meet some of those guys
i go to DC all the time and i have met and spoke with John Lewis (big civil rights rep) - who i dont agree with at all - but i still respect. he is actually very nice and we had a healthy discussion even though we dont agree with him and i told him so, on another occasion i spoke with Tom Price, a rep who is also an MD, who is big time anti obama, we had fun bashing zero on the plane they are just one of us - the people - called to do a job |

I met Sam Nunn back in 72 when he was campaigning. It was in a coffee shop in Macon, Ga.
I was an Air Force officer stationed down the road at Robins AFB. I told him I could not vote for him because I was a registered voter in Louisiana. Surprisingly he did not give me the brush off but sat down and had a quick cup of coffee with the wife and I. |

Turned around, and Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill was standing right behind me with his entourage. (This was either in Washington D.C. or Boston, but I don't remember anymore). What was neat I thought was it was just him. He sat down and was reading off his iPad and I looked over and that's when I thought I recognized him. He was just like any other guy in the airport. No entourage. He made a call on his cell and I heard him say his first name and then I knew it was him. A few other people recognized him but most people were oblivious to who he was. I just thought it was interesting considering he's only one of 100 in the entire country. Since he has a real say in what goes on in this country I thought I'd say hello and let him know I thought he does a good job overall. That's when he asked me a few questions. He was curious what I did for a living. I told him I work construction in FL and asked how our business was. I expressed my concern over how the economy was overall and told him we need more like him to keep the heat on Obama. He said we're trying to. It was a short conversation but it was better than the usual jaw jacking a-holes you usually end up next to at the airport. |
