O.K. all you metal heads. A guy and I were arguing at work today about Metallica. He's from the generation that believes Metallica began with the Black album. I said that Metallica died on AUG 12, 1992. RIP

They didn't sell out. They went from great to suck in under 60secs.

I've liked all their work. I wouldnt call it all Metal though. And only the first two songs on the Black Album are any good. Devil's Dance was probably the only good thing about ReLoad. Unnamed Feeling was probably the only thing worth it on St. Anger.

They are still better than a million other bands in any case.

I have to say that ....And Justice For All was the last Metallica album made. After that, a bunch of posers that sounded like them started making albums. I mean really, how do you go from Ride the Lightning, Mastyer of Puppets, & ..And Justice, to the black album. and beyond WTF happened?

Ride the Lightning had a some duds... Can you say, Trapped Under Ice? Kill 'Em All had Metal Militia which is universally regarded as retarded '80s Metal. MoP was probably the closest they got to perfection.

Dont even let me start about production on Justice. I love listening to live versions of it simply because you can hear the Bass.

No artist will please all fans all the time. They decided to do what they liked. The cult of Metallica stupidity is overwhelming, from people who've not heard anything but Black to the people who go on about OMG THEY CUT THEIR HAIR.

The loss of Cliff was the very beginning of the end.

Dont get me wrong, I loved Justice, and Newsted can wail on bass, but when Burton died a HUGE part of Metallica died with him.

Uh yeah... MoP was thrash through and through. o.O They have always been a progressive thrash band. Their first album was the only one that would truly qualify as pure thrash. Compare any Slayer [true thrash] to say One, or For Whom The Bell Tolls. Metallica always had a progessive element to their music and I dare say they did a fine job making Alternative Metal when they decided to expand their horizons. Of course it wasnt what they were making in the '80s, but it was still solid work.

The inability of the tr00 metal parts of their fan base to come to terms with this is what gave way to the rise 'Load sucks' phenom.

Another Amen to that statement.  Cliff was one of the most amazing bassists of all time.  Jason had the stage pressence and was decent on the bass.  I got to see `tallica from the Snake Pit on the black ablum tour and it was fucking amazing.  After that, even their live shows started to suck.  Last time I saw them their was more pyrotechnics on fucking Sandman than their was in One.

Their music now is just shit.  I liked Black for the most part but everything after sucked IMO.

Diablos in Musica was a horrible album and you're deaf if you cant understand that. God Hates Us All started getting away from thrash and went essentially metalcore on ya. Regardless Slayer may have stayed with their roots but you will go to sleep if you listen to their discography straight through. Metallica changes, experiments etc. Completely different experience.

I will say that Hetfield must go back to singing how he used to if they want to continue playing live. I saw them in '04 at Donnington and the only reason I could stand the singing was because I was half deaf from listening to other bands all day.

I'm 20 My now ex-fiance is british and from the area though.

I saw Slayer, Metallica, Slipknot etc. at Donnington. I've also seen Iron Maiden at Leeds and Anthrax/Megadeth at Rock City Nottingham.

I think Iron Maiden may be at Donnington next year. You never can tell.

Slayer was crazy. There were probably 20,000 people there, and they all immediately started moshing when Slayer came on.
