This may be ignorant but something I caught and never asked about:

Why is the American Flag on the shoulder of military uniforms often displayed with the stars on the right instead of the left?

Because the stars are always supposed to be to the front.

It's supposed to appear as if it was advancing, i.e., into the wind as you go forward.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense.

Without military experience, I was taught to always display with the Stars to the left.

Do the French put the red bar to their back?

IIRC - - stars closest your heart - varies with the side/shoulder
